Yes binned, why you shout. Well I cut some plastic and using silicone applied the sheets cut to length, glued them to the sides. Mixed up the "water" and it leaked out. :poop::poop::poop::cold-sweat::angry::worried::sad::flushed::confused:

These things happen, not pleased as you can imagine, but as the water left on the base had failed to dry as well I decided to remove the whole base from the subbase and start over afresh.

No bridge, just some filler a dip in the center (note the Mod podge recently purchased) some ice sheet and a lone KV deserted in the snow.

Thanks for looking in, comments welcome.

John.:smiling3:

Hi John
Rather shocked as you excel at this sort of thing. Having said that these things happen. Looking forward to the mk2 base which will no doubt be a stunner.
Jim

Bit of a bummer but know you well enough now to bounce back a pain after all the hours but hey from the ashes and all that. Dave

Oh dear :tired: I was having a very enjoyable catch-up and getting all excited!
And now this!
The remains of the bridge looks fine as it is-hope you can incorporate it somehow.
Top stuff, John, in spite of the set-back!

What a shame, all that work gone - don't let it get you down though, turn it around as a 'learning' experience :thumb2: ;) (whereas I'd probably try to salvage it and it'd look a right dogs dinner!)

Ah, too bad, it was looking very impressive. Shame it won’t get completed, but you live and learn, I suppose … Better luck with the next attempt :)

Devastating mate, absolutely devastating.

You have the talent to rebuild it , you have the technology, you have the capability to build the first bionic base. John Race will be that man. Better than he was before, stronger, and faster than he has ever been!.

You have the power to rebuild it!

Thanks Jim, well not worth being upset, more to the point annoyed at the sealing being poor.

Indeed David. Can't win them all, the only good thing is I'd tried some new methods on the base which I shall use again at some point .

:poop::poop::poop: happens........
It does indeed Rick, thanks for the PM .:thumb2::smiling3:

Sorry to end the enjoyable catch up Neil .The bridge has gone to the , well the remains of it , to the large garden waste bin .

Gerry hi , thanks for commenting, normally I would try to salvage the base, but with it not drying at all it was pointless continuing .

You certainly do live and learn !
I could come back to it at some time using another KV 1 , which was indeed the tank in that photo .It's all a leaning curve at the end of the day .

Steve thank you for the evangelistic comments, have you been drinking or sniffing the TXT again :smiling3::smiling3::smiling3::smiling3::smiling3:.

Sorry for your mishap, John. I'm sure that Base 2.0 will be as great as the 1.0 would have been and, possibly, will be in a future project, as the idea was brilliant.

Thanks Andrea, like all modelling a learning curve :smiling3:

That's tough 453, but isn't that the 'Thing' with dioramas?

All going great then the proverbial hits the fan! I too have the 'T' shirt.

A bit annoying for you but onwards and upwards eh? Here's to the Mk.II

John,
What a bummer and it was looking so good. I have had the "water" leak pass the seal as well. It is so frustrating after all the work that had gone in. I know you will not let this get to you and look forward to the solution.

Thanks 570, just one of those things, I need to really check out sealing the outsides before attempting any more "water " themes.

Yes Paul it is, like I said to you on fb. Think I was a little carefree in waiting. There will be another with water in but not yet.

Seeing Capitals are not allowed in titles will a mod please alter mine. I thought it was ok to use them in the description of the model.

Hi thought it was time I showed up with an update and a few photos.

I've been concentrating on the base, applying washes and some very fine green to emulate the green growth that you find on stones in a river. Not over done it, but just a hint.
After several additions followed by sprays of 3/1 IPA and a coat of very thin PVA heavily thinned with water and a drop of washing up liquid to aid the flow the whole base was allowed to dry for several days.

Tonight a spirt based coat of glass varnish was applied and is drying.

Yesterday I fired up the ab and sprayed some colour, wasn't very pleased afterwards with the finish as has a blockage of very dried paint in the nozzle which I had previously flushed though and it appeared fine. So for me a flush through doesn't appear to remove all the old paint.

At this point I brush coated the track guards, just brushed it on as it came esp as I was now fed up !
The turret had been done with the ab and at first I thought it was a complete mess. However leaving it all over night I'm more than happy with the finish, as to me it looks faded and has the primer showing though in places. The look I was after . I still need to put on the lockers, tow cables and the internals to the turret and to work on the overall look of the tracks as part of the front section will have been under water for the winter.

Tonight after the sealing with the varnish.

The KV its self.

Thanks for looking in.

John.
Looks real good John I like that paint on the KV.
