Hello, fellow modellers.

As far as I'm aware, the only kit manufacturer that makes a 1:48 scale model kit of the EE Lightning is Airfix.

Now, I think that the likes of Tamiya, Hobby Boss etc are missing a trick here.

On every modelling forum I visit, the Lightning appears to be a popular subject for modellers. Am I alone in thinking that a new tooled Lightening kit from the likes of Tamiya or Eduard would do well in the market and provide a bit more scope for us modellers?

Thoughts?

The Airfix one is no slouch, their new tool kits are pretty damn good these days. Tamiy are never going to do a "niche" subject, probably true for Hobby Boss and Eduard too. I believe that there are resin after market parts for the airfix one anyway, and that makes a beautiful 'plane!

I dont know about Tamiya, but Italeri and Revell do quite a few British jets, so might be more likely to see one from them. Eduard might take the airfix kit and add aftermarket to it and release it under their name as they do with so many of their kits.

Sword have a new 1/48 EEL several in fact. Both single and twin stick. There was a few shape size issues on the initial production, but they have reportedly been attended to.

I am looking at getting one for a coming group build here on the forum.
But in reply to your question. Yes an Eduard would be great and a Tamiya OK IF they do it right!
Who knows, they way Airfix are surprising us lately, they might even have a newer one on the way. Nowt wrong with the old one, but the tool might be getting a bit worn...

Actually they already have done..... With the Airfix one. Eduard do produce a good few of their new kits themselves there days so we might get lucky there as well.
(do you get the idea I like Lightnings....)

I'm with you all the way on that one Builder - absolutely love the Lightning.  Such a shame that they are not allowed to take to the air over their homeland. Truly the last great fighter Britain produced.

I have one of the 1:48 Airfix kits on order.  it was when I was looking at the options that I started wondering about other manufacturers.  But thanks for the feedback guys.  I'm new to this site and glad to see it's both busy and friendly.

In my opinion Tamiya make absolutely fantastic kits and I think it would be excellent to see their take on a Lightning. Definitely something I'd like to see, but maybe Airfix have already made a good name for themselves with their new tool kits.  :)

Not surprised, the 1/72 one is a decent size, compared to many! Enjoy the build, you now have an amazing range of metal finish paints at your disposal!!
I used the Vallejo acrylic ones, and they are really top notch.
