Evening all,

So the other morning after the kids had gone to school I noticed one of them had left her hair straighteners switched on.....lucky I was home to switch them off!!!

So got me thinking is there such a thing as a plug that I can put onto their hair straighteners that will turn itself off??

Or failing that anyone know of a decent hair timmer so I can shave their heads!!

Ta all......

Why not just buy one of those timer plugs. Set them up so that it only comes on between 7am and 9am ;)

Oh and read the riot act to your daughters lol

next time they're left on revoke their hair and makeup privileges for a week :)

seriously allynes idea of the timer works well. get a digital one though as they're well worth the extra money regarding quality

Buy then gas ones, cheaper to run and if left on they run out of gas. When they have to buy the refils they wont forget to turn them off i assure you. Always check though, this could have cost you your house, heaven forbid. And while we are at it. Just a reminder about tumble dryers. Never ever go out and leave one running, they are the most common cause of house fires, I even know a guy that lost 2 motor bikes in his garage when it burnt down because he left the tumble dryer going in there.

Cheers

Andy

I cut the plug off my daughter's - about 2 inches from the drier! Funny, but after she bought a new one, she never left it on again.

There are timers for hydroplonic lights and sprinklers, overkill maybe.

you can get plugs with a remote switch so you can switch them off

If you are going to use a timer switch make sure it can handle the current that something like straighteners draw. Many hair straighteners, and similar products that heat up,draw more current initially than they "idle" at or is marked on the box.Otherwise you are just setting up another way to burn down your house.

Make sure that the switch can handle at least 1.5 amps which will cover a 300 watt warm up.

Cheers

I should have elaborated with this info when i posted above, the cheap poundshop type jobbies are about good enough to switch a lamp (or stereo etc) on and off for home security when youre out (well thats all i'd trust them to do:)). The digital types are considerably more expensive but are normally rated higer and can switch/maintain heavier loads. I woudn't really even consider/trust a cheap one to regulate the heating for our reptiles, and thats fairly low wattage.

What you area all forgetting is daughters are female. And therefore can not be reasoned with. They are also likely to remove the timer plug or plug their straighteners in some where else.Gerns idea is the most effective. In my daughters case i just confiscated them until she got the message.

I agree Dave. as I said above I just revoked my two of their privileges for a week if I ever had a problem

My God, if they tell their teachers what you have done you will end up in the European courts for denying them their Human Rights ;)

Thanks for the replies!! I know exactly what you mean Fenlander!! And yes Dave, reasoning is not one of their strong points!!

I'll have anothe "chat" with them and explain the "hair straighteners in the bin" series of events that could well occur!! Timer idea sounds like a good one too....

Theyre both grown up now so there's no come back from their teachers Graham.

In fact they both have teaching qualifications themselves now and the oldest has just married and is wanting to start her own family presumably so she can dish out the punishment herself ;)
