Maybe that way they'd think twice the next time.
It didn't in this county hundreds of years ago, nor does it work today in countries that practice Shari'a law.
And what if the wrong person was produced at your house? Would you sew his fingers back on?
Patrick if you'd walked in my shoes for the four years I spent working within the prison systems within the UK and abroad in an engineering capacity and seen what I saw your somewhat liberal view of this I feel would be different. "But we are all allowed our opinions" I don't know of any victims of a criminal act who have expressed it was a pleasurable experience. All criminals bring is pain and misery to society.
Some criminals can be rehabilitated back into society i agree but if stronger deterrents were inforce I'm sure they would not be so keen to break the law in the first place.
We have for far to long been using the softly softly approach and I'm sorry it's not working.
Our once great country is not so great anymore. Crime being one of the contributing factors
Locally to me where I live just this week a 69 year old man was beaten to within an inch of his life and he remains in A+E on life support. Another assaulted and robbed and today someone was found murderd in his home. I won't say anything about all the vandalism breaking and entering car theft and shoplifting that goes on as that's just a regular occurrence and doesn't really merit a mention as it should be accepted as the "norm"
I respect you opinions and views although not the same as mine and yes if 100% proven guilty I'll be here with my tools and chopping board.
I mean I've only ever inserted my finger into a live light fitting once I've never been back for another go

John, we both know that there's no easy answer to the problem of crime. But leaving an old man fighting for his life & breaking into a shed aren't the same thing!

Both of you are correct in your own ways.
I agree with john, on the point that the penal system here fails as soon as the offender enters the dock. The CPS are weak, and magistrates, and judges are limited by laws which have changed to suit society and human rights.
And thats where the system needs help, if the chances of a slap on the wrist were eliminated it would certainly help.
I also agree with Patrick, corpral punishment is good until it starts to develop into either draconian torture or middle eastern ethics. Hence why we no longer have hangings. theres way too many innocent people who end up being convicted of crimes they had no part in and unfortunately it still happens now.
i hate theft as i said before, and used to be of the opinion, if you steal, then chop your hands off, you wont do it again. Im older and wiser now, and know that isnt the cure for it. Dont ask me what is, i really dont know anymore!

I was on jury service recently, we found this person guilty, then it was revealed to us he had over 50 "FIFTY" previous convictions. This person might be a candidate for John's treatment. The really disappointing thing is, the judge went straight to the minimum sentence, even after over 50 convictions !

What shitface scum could do such a thing I hope their F***ing hands drop off,I know what I would do if I ever caught anyone breaking into our house...It's amazing what damage a disabled person can do from a wheelchair

Maybe the shed was an easy target and if it was only models that were in the shed then that would be why they were taken.
If there were tools etc in the shed then I would have thought they would be the target.
It is possible to buy an alarm for sheds that can be fitted by the owner which might scare thieves.
It to me does seem an odd robbery and a disgrace that all the work and effort that went into making the models has been lost.
I could not display a model made by somebody else and pass it off as my own.
One of my dogs in in my avatar and I doubt he likes thieves.
