Hi all!

I've been thinking of what to make for my next project and have decided that it would be pretty cool to have a model of a Ford Capri Calypso special edition, painted to look like the one I actually drive. Buying one just like mine would be out of the question, as there don't seem to be any models of Capris in two tone green, so it would make more sense to get a kit and paint it up in the correct colour scheme. The problem is, I can't find any kits anywhere! I found a Mk. 1 Ford Escort kit, which is exactly the type of kit I'm looking for, but obviously not of the right car.

I even thought of buying a die cast model and spraying it, but this too poses all sorts of problems: (1) I'd have to mask it up very VERY carefully (2) The model I bought would probably be a 2.8i, while mine is only a 2.0 (3) None of the existing models seem to have the correct wheels, or anything that even slightly resembles the wheels on mine.

I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd post up a message in this section to see if anybody had any ideas or knew of anywhere to get a kit from, no worries if not. :)

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

Have you asked on the Ford Capri Forum?

There's a possibility one of them may know of something.

I knew it! I knew i liked you Jamie and the name wasn't Pirate of the Caribbean, it just had to be from Ford, top man. Anyway lol, if you can find a Mk III Capri model kit then let me know, i've been trying for years matey. Revell did do the MkIII years ago but had the V8 in and was custom, i'll check on the Capri Power forum for you and see what happens.

Just one question though, why is your "Calypso" Capri a 2.0? They only made the Calypso in a 1.6, you've been playong havn't you lol.

Just for you because i like you that much, this is my baby. Forest Green over Strato Silver.

Have fun, John

Years ago, a mate of mine had what I assume would have been a MkI Capri. We were pulling out of a steep uphill side street in Sheffield and the clutch cable snapped. We rolled the car back down the hill a bit and got the nearside wheels on the pavement. Went and had a pint in a nearby pub then walked to a car spares shop and bought a new cable. I then crawled underneath h and replaced the broken one, worst bit was getting behind the peddles as I remember. As we had no tools, it was simply a string it together job, we set off, clutch snatching like hell to find a garage where a mechanic adjusted it for a couple of quid. Then it was back to the pub.... Oh happy days.

You might be lucky to find one on flea-bay. I know that Airfix did one as I build one for a mate who had a real one.

Was a fun ride in the wet as I recall. All the weight in the back. Just loved to kick out at round abouts. We never did get the bump out where his tool box flew across the floor of the boot and put a nice dent in the rear quarter!

I had a Calypso many moons ago,Forest Green with Crystal Green split, I thought it would be a good idea to push it to its limits, 20 minutes later half its gubbins where on the road,So I always have a smile when I see one or they just get mentioned.

Haha, I'm a member on CapriPower's forum and I swear I've seen your car before Centurion! What a small world eh? :D

From the research I've done so far, I think mine is the only Forest / Crystal green Calypso left, or at least left doing shows etc. I would say that it's the only Forest / Crystal green one left in existance but that's pushing it as you can never know how many of them are sat in barns, being restored or owned by people who aren't computer literate etc. It's good to see that they have such a strong following on the Scale Model forum too!

I'll try and post some pictures of mine up, but last time I tried little red circles with white crosses in appeared as I was trying to manage my attachments and they wouldn't load up. Anyway, I'll give it another shot, so bear with me!

Don't know if this is much help but hobby craft in warrington were selling haynes car kits and i'm sure i saw a capri carrie had her eye on the old ford escort so you could try that, best of luck.
