My first Escort had the same markings as this, back when I was a lad - when road tax and insurance were just a small inconvenience, and not the robbery they are these days ! Actually, I'm 50 now, insurance isn't too bad.

Needs more rust under the bonnet, particularly around the suspension struts!

I concur. I discovered how bad they can get when I leant on the inner wing of my old escort, my hand went straight through it lol

As a side point. Would the wheel arch extensions be made of metal back then, or fiberglass?

Looks great so far though. How did you get the paint cracking affect?

Aluminium or fibre glass (could have been polypropylene) but either way, no rust. Also available in two sizes, 'Tarmac' and 'Forest'
