Just to let you know I've been thinking about changing the forum on to a different platform, the one we are using at the moment crashes far too often, last time was yesterday, you might have noticed that sometimes you visit the forum and it's just a blank page with a bit of text saying something about it being broke, I don't have time to look in to why it keeps doing this.

The software I'm looking at will still have the gallery and it does seem a lot easier to navigate, I'm still not 100% decided but if I'm going to do it it might as well be this weekend as we have several inches of snow and I have no intention of going out.

if it looks better and will save you grief then go for it

can i ask what the platform is?

must admit ive only ever experience problems here just the once and that was ages ago

I might have gone back to vbulletin but that has gone downhill since the new version, this one is one of the few that has the migration tools for Xenforo, which is what we are using at the moment

I have had one issue with this forum in a couple of years... I really like the layout and the way it works.

Hopefully if you do change then we get something as easy to use when it comes to uploading and storing pictures as this one is great for that and it's a little part of the reason I enjoy coming here.

IP Board is the same one that Britmodeller uses I think (?)

If so, that's a very stable & user friendly system. Although will direct image uploads be allowed? All BM images are links from photo hosting sites.

Yes, you can drag and drop or use the browse button to find them on your computers, or paste a direct link to the image.

I've always allowed image uploads, I prefer they are uploaded rather than linked to something like photobucket where they will get deleted over time.

I agree it is very irritating to look at and old thread and all the photos have been deleted particularly for tutorial threads.

Now that is weird. I have preferred to link, even though it can be a pain in the ass from a phone or tablet, as I thought it saved server space and costs.

Errrrrr, SNOW! We have high winds but it's sunny and not unpleasant outside, bit nippy though. God, I miss Yorkshire......

Space isn't a problem, there is plenty free, although the next thing to change will be this server, it's expensive for what it is, but that won't change until June

We had a good 4 or 5 inches of snow this morning, it's all gone now, weird weather.

Just noticed this John, I posted in regards to not being able to see any pics at all, then read your above post.....Ooops! :$

I must admit that even at this early and still populating stage, I quite like the look of this new forum.

It looks clean, modern and professional.  OK, it is going to take some getting used to and it will make more sense when everything has come across and the inevitable bugs get ironed out.

I would also like to thank John for the long hours he spends keeping this forum working smoothly and investing his own time and money into the software and hardware on which we all come along and share each other's company.  He has been doing this for some years now, the forum came long before the shop and he was just as keen to develop the forum then. So a huge thank you to John for what he gives us all.  I know this may sound like creeping but I don't care.  Cheers John. :)

I tried the like function with this post but apparently I can only give 100 a day and I have already done that? It seems the transfer is counting all my previous likes.

I've just not set it up right at the moment, once I've got the images sorted I will fine tune the user group permissions

Added a PLEASE READ tag to the title and made it a feature.

So please read before posting John is doing everything he can to get the forum back up to 100%. And he is doing it live so we all can still get our fix. Please be patient and bare over with the minor issues. If it has not been brung up before fine, please mention it but it does not help John if there are 25 people asking the same questions. (I know that reads a bit harsh but it is meant in the kindest of ways.

My name has gone :(  liked that feature, helped with adding a more personal post...mainly cos I am useless with names :D
