Great idea Allen...might take you up on it but I have something in mind. Thanks. Also thank you Lee, Peter, Si, Andy and Scottie for your kind comments.

The interior of these vehicals were kept clean and stocked as they were in a sector of France just preparing for an invasion. There must have been days of cleaning perhaps mock drills and the surprise inspections by the brass namely Rommel himself.

I forgot to show the hairy stick I used for the detail I painted...

Now back to the chassis and the tracks...they are the stiffest I have come across...stuffed with Viagra I suppose :tears-of-joy:

U33.jpg

I had these but thought I'd save it for another build...

U34.jpg

I decided to use an old technique of drilling holes to the sidewall and securing pins over the tracks to keep them down...

U35.jpg

I cut the pins halfway the width of the tracks so they are not so noticeable.

U36.jpg

Some dirt and grass will further hide the pins. Later I painted the whole assembly in black.

Cheers,
Richard

In those first pictures with the tracks, it almost gives the impression that they’re pre-formed tracks that you put on upside down. Not only very stiff but also a bit too long, by the looks of it. The pin method appears to have worked well, though.

Nice work on the tracks. They are always the Achilles heel on my builds. I might send the next set over to you to put on for me LOL

Hey Jakko and Steve, thanks.

Ya they look upside down but were really a circle before installation. I wish they wrap themselves or for the individual link ones already assembled.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Richard,

She is looking real nice and I figured you did have a plan. Normally the tracks for these two kits are too long. Great job with the pins. I too, bought the Hobby Boss tracks to replace the kit tracks. They do require a lot of cleanup though......

I have a question, how come you can pay with Reich Marks in your neck of the woods and how much is RM 29,90 in todays currency???

Hi Guys, Jakko has summed it up for you Allen...is it expensive?

Cheers,
Richard

If I check a couple of web sites, what you paid for them seems to be a little less than what they cost in the EU — I see prices like €6.61, €7.50, €7.99 (from Revell, of all people), etc. for this set. OTOH, does Malaysia have European-style VAT or American-style sales tax? If the latter, the RM 29.90 price would probably go up when you actually buy it.

Interesting update Richard. I see you are keeping the radio. Will you be adding wires and headphones??

Great history lesson Paul /Jakko. Very interesting read
Steve I though you would ask the question " are you having 3 part camo " :nerd:

Sorry Richard,
Its looking good , I can't remember it either, are you sure you posted it on the forum we don't mention, or some where else. :smiling5:

Richard,
This is coming along very nicely. Pinning the tracks takes me back to the early Tamiya offerings, one method was to thread cotton through the top and tie off at the bottom - Panther, Tiger, M113 to name a few.
Cheers, Mike.

Richard some good helpful tips there, esp the pins through the body to hold the tracks. Thank you.
Referring back to the AB settings ,Jim has a really nice H&S Infinity which will allow him to set the flow, so this should help.

Thanks Gentelmen,

John, I'm very sure I did...I remember Dave saying that these tracks will not look good even if I tried pinning them.
Mike, oh dear it really shows our age doesn't it working with rubber tracks. :smiling2:
Paul, unfortunately can't do anything about its ugly shape.

Here is what it looks under some black paint and with the super structure over it...

You just don't know if it is coming or going :tears-of-joy:

Hi Richard
As always very neat and thought through work.

No Richard, they are not expensive, but the point was missed that RM = Reich Mark and was the German currency through WWII, You are building a vehicle used by the Germans and parts bought for it were paid with RMs for sure. I know what currency you use in Malaysia...

I guess that joke just flew over everyone's head!!! I do find it crazy though.....BTW This ugly is looking fine Sir. Drive on!!!

Prost

Allen, ya it certainly flew way over...I suddenly realised they use DM in Germany now. When you posted that comment I was thinking the RM=Reich Mark was a pun. :smiling5: Thanks...Germans drive on the right...we drive on the left.:smiling2:

Cheers,
Richard

Sorry Richard, but we use the Euro now. DM's went out in 2000...…………..I have to drive that way when I go to England too!!! Good practice for when I get to your side of the world! Take care my friend…...

Thank God I don't do banking...I'm still thinking pre-EU. Spending too much time at the bench. :tears-of-joy:
