First model I ever bought and baulked at the rigging. Good decision.

I have one more a Stranraar on the shelf then that is 1/72 finished with.

Old model this and have to admit my concentration went. Just wanted to get it off the shelf and rushed it. The model quality is rustic in detail but went together OK.

Decals looked perfect on their backing but started to disintegrate during moving to final position. Better if I had not trimmed the silvering edges especially as with silver paint it did not prove a problem with the roundels.

Hate silver paint hate hate hate

Laurie you have done this glad a great model. I'm still on my faith hope and charity but am losing my will with the rigging etc but I'll get them done soon. Although you said the kit was old and decals didn't fair well you have made it look like the real thing ( did you drill the wings for the rigging or use superglue? Pray tell

Hi Robert

I drilled a little way into the wings about half way. Just a fraction bigger than the rigging thickness. Tried various methods.

The best I found. Used on the end of the rigging Power Drop rigging pen. Called a primer activator ie accelerator. Then put a drop of s/glue in the drilled hole. Used Loctite Super Glue Control (supposed to be instant) Offered up the end of the rigging thread to the hole and hoped that it would take. 75% it did other times produced a lot of words. Best to use I found (to late) magnifiers to make sure the aim on the hole is accurate.

I first coated the wings. Then fixed the rigging then put on a finishing coat.

Well I think you have done a great job of it Laurie.

Silver is an hard colour to paint just to break it up a little try painting some panels titanium or aluminium

Nice one Laurie!

I must admit that Ive looked at a good few of your builds since joining this forum and I aspire to try and replicate your builds where you've used rigging. I've a few biplanes in the stash that will hopefully look as good as your finished results.

Well, that is a great build Laurie. The fact that this is the old (ancient) Airfix kit makes it even more so, that would compete with any of the new ones on any given day. Lovely work on the rigging, and I enjoyed the build thread again.

Thank David. If you have a go,it is well worth it as the bi-planes just look good and very interesting, practice before hand and plan the way to do it all. Cannot stress practice or you can get in an awful mess. But with good practice and a great dollop of patience it works. Not as good on this one the Walrus was better as I had more patience.

I missed this one Laurie. For an old kit you've done a nice job. Silver, yes one of my least favourite colours. It's a bit difficult getting any life into it.

Thanks Colin. Yes silver is the very devil including taking photos. Simple kit only 25 pieces I think.
