Hi folks is there a glue that is tacky enough to use on PE parts but not as quick drying as super glue ?

At the moment I'm using a gel SG but it's drying too quickly in the thinned areas before I can get it into position

Thanks

Go with Barry,Alan, very versatile glue. Great thing is while still in liquid form it can be wiped away with water.

It is also a gap filler as it expands as it cures an advantage but also if not careful a disadvantage as it will move your pieces if you plaster it on unless restrained.

So I just use a very minimum amount. Sticks like industrial velcro.

On the PE parts I use super duper glue but the Loctite gel type which is slower to go off. When all is positioned with a "third hand", I wish, I give a small drop of accelerator

Matter of interest the gel type is good where you have wireless antennae & need to represent a join where they have used a rigging joint. A blob of super glue (Cyanoacrylate or CA) gives a good representation.

Thanks Laurie I'm going to my local hobby shop today to see if he's got either of these as the shop is out of stock

Thanks for your input :)

The guy that makes Gator glue stopped making it in April, he apparently had a large DIY project he wanted to do, I emailed him last night and he's going to make a batch for me, not sure when I will have it in, best guess is 3-4 weeks, if you can't wait that long a good alternative is Kristal Klear

John there is an alternative which is called Gorilla Glue. Seems to do the same trick.

Does it still dry clear? it doesn't seem as safe as Gator glue

Warning: Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. Keep locked up and out of the reach of children.

John. Looking at the ring of Gorilla glue left around the lid it looks the same as Gaytor. Also has the same smell. Think that both cure with a slight fawn appearance.

So have put a sample of each on plastic & will do a SITREP.

Instructions for use are the same expansion & secure pieces etc. Would think the precautions belong to both glues but Gorilla have use & hazard publications. Can not find any for Gaytor.

I was sceptical about it, suppose the name, when I bought it. The container & application nozzle are much better than the Gaytor.

John these sites give the details

http://www.gorillaglue.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=tWHGr3zYQNY%3D&tabid=95

http://www.everbuild.co.uk/image/data/MSDS%20Adhesives/Gator%20Glue.pdf

Looks as though both are made with the same constituents & act in the same way. Both have similar hazard warnings.

Gaytor from the results of my high class lab. experiments show that Gaytor goes off a little quicker & also foams or expands more. Both are a slighty transparent fawn in colour.

Thanks Laurie, was curious to see how it compares with gator glue. The data sheet you have linked to isn't the same gator glue as I stock.

The stuff I have is marketed by Everbuilding Products. It has a green Crocodile on the label.

I think the gator glue you have found Laurie is some thing quite different to the Gator's Grip glue for model builders.

The one you refer to is a builders glue.

Her is a review of the 'correct' one. http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=5618

My doubts were aroused when you wrote that gator glue expands. I use it a lot and it has never expanded. Apart from carpentry a glue that expands is as useful as a saw with out teeth!

In that case I would like to put my name on a couple of those gator'e grip pots when you get them in. ;)

This is all fascinating two glues with the same name.

John could you also put me down for one. Thanks.

Yes I have been using this other glue called Gators Glue. Little wonder that although still a good glue it did not have the magic properties that I read about sometime ago on here.

So for any one else it is called Gator Grip - Acrylic Hobby Glue. NOT Gator Glue the adhesive with bite. Amazing thing is that the labels on both bottles have a Crocodile. Very confusing.

I use Evostick contact glue a lot for all sorts of jobs, not just for modelling. (Not Evostick's version of Araldite epoxy resin). It is sticky and takes 10 minutes to dry.

A bit off topic but the Glue Laurie wrote about sounds like a polyurethane glue for chippies. I have used similar for wood working. Dampen the wood, put the glue on and clamp- the glue expands into all the nooks and crannies and locks everything solid. It is also impossible to wash off hands once dry. Sand paper works! LOL.

Yes as I have found out Ian that is the one. Hope no one has made the same error as I have given this name out on this forum not realising the name I had been given had a twin in the glue world..

But it is still part of my repertoire as it is a very useful glue for model makers. It can be used to glue most materials & without damage.

Used it for gap filling a couple of times. Just place just under approx 50% of the gap with this Gator Everbuild & it will expand into that gap. It is is extremely strong both in bond & in its self. The glue also has a certain elasticity ie the plastic will crack before the Gator.

Latest was the Lysander I have just completed. As said the long 9" wing fell off. I could not use poly cement or for that matter any other glue as I could not see into the wing end. Used Gator Ever. to expand around the new spars (which I had also glued into the fuselage) when threaded in place in to the wing. Worked perfectly.

Any way enough of that. Have found myself a pot of the "real stuff" & looking forward to trying it out soon. So on my shelf I will have Gator & Gator plus Gorilla.
