In answer to RJW's question about the application of Johnsons, being a self levelling medium ( ie for its original application on floors ) it does not really require a brush for application, many just use a cotton wool bud, once this stuff hits the surface it flows out nicely, think of it as a very high quality varnish which has so much more to offer.

You have read it in the wrong context RJW,read it again as a one liner -Quote my saying-

'When you consider that John has only built a couple of kits, this is not a bad job at all'

In other words considering he has only built a couple of kits his efforts are beyond those of someone who has done so,ie he has made a brilliant job of things !!:emo1:

ah oh yes i did read it wrong, yes he has done very well.

i think anybody, however much experience, how much they spent on it., even it s 5 year old making an airfix 1:72 hawk that comes with the two pots of paint, a little revell glue and a paintbursh, if they do it, no matter what it looks like....it will be good.

they have put the time and effort doing it and enjoyed it....i mean look at "modern" art....epecially realism, some of it absoulty crap, but still sells for millions!

well im going to commit sucide if hannats dont give me my eduard set soon, richards finnished and johns is looking great, yet ive just taken it out the box and looked! :-(

Im begining to think doing a mk1 rather than a vbtrop might of been a better idea but we will just have to see i guess!

Pink spits- the book "spitfires" has some pics in, its a large hardback glossy thing but my copy long since disappeared, otherwise i would scan you some pics!

I have decided to do a standard mk 5 but with scratchbuilt engine and other bits i decided to do this so i can compare it with the folks who bought detail sets and add ons I thought that on a purists base that was what would of happened before all those lovely after market bits appeared! So modelling in a purer form almost lol

go for it nigel!!!

now i wish i had not finished first. feel left out now :(

Thats a really good idea nigel, i have the ed set on the way and i think somebody else was going to use a resin one!

yes dad bought engines for me and him so we are going ot do it like that personally i didnt think the mk 5 had a lot of detail compared to some other spit kits.

Hand bags out boys......this gonna get brutal.

I can't believe your keeping both them engines for yourself Nige. (grins evilly) Holding back from your own daughter....

(Hey Char?...just nip to his modelling room and have a rummage, If you need a stethascope for cracking the wall mounted safe behind the picture of Margaret Thatcher, i have a spare i can post. Be carefull though, he may have booby trapped it with semtex or a 00 scale finely crafted scale nuclear device, possibly based on one from a James Bond movie.

The name's D....Nige D...double 00 modeller)
