Well the compressor arrive yesterday morning courtesy of UPS next day delivery and it runs like a dream. I'm using a shorter hose that it came with not sure if that makes a difference but it's pressure is so much better.

Anyway back to the model the underside was masked ready for the upper surface camo of RLM 71 which went down well. I then made a start with the splinter pattern with RLM 70 this also seems to be going down well. As I said before I won't attach the control flaps until they have been sprayed and this has paid off. Here's a dry fit but I still won't fit them permanently till the end of the build.

If I get time today I will continue with the camo.

I really like the stuka, comin along nicely, my Dad and me built an airfix one long time a go that was 1\35 bloody massive, still went on the ceilling. has yours got a square window on the floor between the pilots legs? and the angle decals on pilots side window?

keep up the good work am learning loads.

cheers

Martin

ps;why do you all paintdark lines around all panels then spray over them?

might seem a daft question but i don't know???????

Martin thats preshading bro, the top coat allows some of the dark to show thru. Great teqnique.

Hi All

I haven't posted on the Stuka for nearly a week, the new grandson has taken priority(and so he should)

So here are rather a lot of images of my progress.

The splinter pattern is complete, then the trop camo was masked and added, a coat of klear then on with the decals which took a few days. I can't say I'm a fan of the hasegawa decals they seem fragile but also thick at the same time. I found that it took for ever for the decals to bed down but they did eventually.

On with the second coat of klear and that's when things starting going wrong big time. The decals started to disintegrate see photos. Not sure how I can resolve this problem anyones ideas would be greatly received. I can't work out what went wrong as I had given the decals plenty of time to cure before applying the second coat of klear. The wheel spats have been added and the forward part of the fuselage. Lots of dangly parts to add(the tail wheel is a dry fit for the photo, I've broken too many tail wheels in the past, so it was put in a safe place afterwards) and some weathering and a flat coat, but that will be a few days away yet.

wowser vaughan i see you have stolen cotton buds, apart from that really good looking stuka fantabulous mate

Ive heard about this decal problem before Vaughan. I dont know what the answer is but clearly the make up of these particular decals does not like your clear coat. I cant see from your photos just how bad they are, they look ok to me. The only thing we can do to avoid major dissapointments is run a test on a decal before committing the whole model. This is a habit I need to get into before I get bitten. But yours dont look bad at all.

That thing is huge, looks really nice, takes me back Happy memories.

Do they not give you the screaming spinners that go on the legs?

As to your decal issue I'd just cover it up with battle damage few .303 or .50 holes across the wings.

Love it gonna chat up SWMBO to increase my alowance to get a 1/35th Aircraft, would be a lot easier on me big hands.

Cheers

Martin

Lovely paint job Vaughan. As for the decals if the only problems are the ones I can make out in the photos you've got three choices. You can leave it,markings weathered, one of Marseilles Bf109s famously had chunks of the upper wing Balkenkreuz missing. You can touch up with a fine brush and paint, luckily black and white are the easiest colours to fix. Finally you could get radical, sand the decals off and so a complete repaint.

Martin not all Ju87s were fitted with sirens. Some had the mounting blanked off, making a nice foot rest.

And others didn't have them at all.

Thanks for that Steve.

Since posting the photos I had a go at repairing the underwing Balkenkreuz lightly masking it to spray in some black. It didn't turn out to be such a good idea and once I removed the tape it took the decal with it.

I have completely removed it and resprayed with RLM65. I now have a blank canvas to start again. Obviously I don't have a replacement decal so will have a go at masking and create one any hints tips tutorials wouldn't go a miss.

Vaughan

Masking those crosses with the white/black outline is difficult without pre-cut masks like "Miracle masks".

I'll be home on Monday for a couple of days and might (I think I saw some when filing decals a few weeks ago) have some decals I can send you if you can wait.

Cheers

mobear

I don't want to hijack Vaughan's thread, but if you like the snake Stuka here's one I did earlier.
