discussion Hasegawa Me109E "Marseille" Kit# 09892

Just started to abuse a new kit with the hopes of building one within a year when a small snag appeared in step 2. More times than not, the model will now suffer from AA fire and find its way into a growing pile of un-built, half built, and semi-built models. The instructions show a plastic piece(A11) joined to a photo etched piece(MA4). Got that done with correct angle but joining the two to the fuselage interior is very vague. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Geo

Hi Geo

That sound like the etch grill in the engine intake. I've built a few hasegawa 109s and what I did is mate the plastic part to the etch, then (whilst drying so act quickly) slotted the etch grill into the recess in the fuselage and adjusting the angle of the deflector to fit into the air intake. From memory the angle depicted is not the angle that is required when fitted.

Was playing around with the part before I logged on and found the stupid thing fit better backwards.(it can happen:smile5 Do I glue the plastic to where I've drawn the arrow? (Is there a preview the post button anywhere?) Again, thanks for the great help. Geo. P.S. Got the model in better light and noticed small indentations below my arrow. Could this be where the plastic part is glued?

I think so,though I've not built that kit Here's some pictures of the real thing(s) showing the parts the kit is representing.

Great pictures Steve. Taped the fuselage halves together and your bottom picture confirms that the plastic part is indeed the splitter plate and the photo-etch part is nigh on invisible. Figures. A big thank you to you and Paul for your help. 995 problems to go...Geo

Hi Geo - you've got it. The etch is the vertical bit that glues to the back of where your arrow is pointing and the plastic part fits in between the air intake. I remember this procedure as I had similar confusion the first time I attempted this kit! Ignore the angle in the image in the instructions and test fir on the model itself.
