discussion Heller kits....?

I am currently watching a couple of kits on a well known auction site. One is a Heller, I've not had any experience with this make. Could someone give me any idea if they are good and any bad points that crop up with them please. Thanks in anticipation.

HI Paul well I had a heller kit of concorde in 1/72 scale an it was a big model several yrs ago an the detail was very good so I say yes but other may say nay

I have a few Heller 1/35th soldiers kits ( must be 30 years old ) , they are very ''historex'' in quality and hollow parts design.
I have not tried any of their more recent kits.

I built a Heller Fw190 and Ju87 many moons ago. Basic is an understatement. Personally i'd have a look at the kit on Scalemates or YT and see if there is any more info on it there.

I recently built a Ferguson tractor by Heller. It was a nicely detailed kit but had a few small issues with the instructions.

Hi paul , ive built quite a few heller kits over the years and they have their good and not so good kits like all makers . They are a french maker and as such offer some quite unusual subjects amongst the more usual stuff ( ie. a lot of obscure french aircraft) . All the older toolings are raised panel lines , but very finely done and the mouldings are usually very nice, razor sharp trailing edges , delicate details etc . The interiors can be quite basic , or sometimes virtually non existent ( think 1960s Airfix ) and their decals are a bit strange , they always seem to have quite yellow carrier film and are very matt .Which kits are you looking at?

I made three the fergie tractor was ok but the 2004 f1 Renault is still in the stash as I can't get the rear suspension together and the decals are way too thick to settle despite soaking in neat microsol and I have their 1\125 A380 also the decals are to thick and just won't stick so I tend to avoid them.

Hi Tony, I'm looking at a Polish PZL. 23 Karas. It's 1/72. Apparently Karas means crucian carp, which just happens to be my favourite fish, (when I get the chance to go fishing)

Thats one I built when i was a kid and it still makes a great kit today . This is one of Hellers better toolings with a quite detailed interior . The panel lines are raised but very nicely done . Ive recently got the IBG models kit of this aircraft and was thinking of getting another Heller kit to compare the two as I love the look of this aircraft . Cheers tony

Heller is basically the French Airfix: they have old kits (as old as Airfix’s, pretty much) that are poor by modern standards, new kits that are pretty good, and anything in between — including old, good kits and probably poor new ones. You really need to ask about specific kits, I think.

I've got a partially made one in the stash, I've just retrieved it, and it's quite nicely moulded, with raised panel lines. It's only a simple model - it lacks fine detail, which is why I added the Eduard PE set, which more than compensates! If you have any specific questions about the model, ask away................
