Hi folks.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a seaplane in the January GB. The colours are shown as RLM 72 and 73 over RLM 65.

My problem is that neither Revell, nor Humbrol nor Vallejo Air do an RLM 72.

Am I right in thinking that this is a slightly lighter coloured green than the RLM 73?

I'm not desperately fussed about precise colours but I should at least like to get the light/dark greens the right way round on the camo. pattern!

That's correct. RLM 72 is slightly lighter and greener. The contrast between 72 and 73 is very low.

Honestly, if any of them do an RLM 71 equivalent you could substitute that for RLM 72. I guarantee that nobody could tell the difference on a model.

Cheers

Dave, I had this dilemma too when I bought my Arado. I wanted enamels and I found the colours I needed with Xtracolor X222 and X223. I think Humbrol have also just released a range of RLM colours including these elusive sea plane shades. Unsure whether they do acrylics for them yet.

Hi guys. Thanks for your help.

Steve - I've managed to find the Humbrol paints that DaveW recommends (I gather from the high numbers that these are fairly new colours, which might explain why I couldn't find them).

Joe - Typed in Xtracolor x222 on ebay and got zero results.

It's a Hannnats jobbie Dave. the Humbrol one may be easier to acquire.

Ordered the Humbrol day before yesterday thanks Joe.

I've tried the Hannants site before and just lost the will to live trying to find things on their site!

When I want Xtracolour enamels I buy them from Wonderland models.Excellent service but you need to order at least 10 tins to make it worth your while because of postage costs.

Just checked this site. The two Xtracolor colours I want would cost £6.06 with p&p. I paid £5.00 inclusive for the two Humbrol colours so you're right about the postage.

The name Wonderland seemed familiar and I had a think (now my head hurts!). I remember ordering something from them a few months ago. When I came to pay they said they'd not got the item in stock and would get back to me. I contacted them after a fortnight and they told me they had no idea when they'd be getting their stock so I cancelled my order.

I suppose it's like any other supplier. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

That would be the 'Wonder' part of their name in action.

Very good Joe, certainly made me chuckle.

Seriously, it does illustrate how important it is for online retailers to try to keep the availability of stock up to date on their web sites. I know this is not always easy as I'm sure John ( who does a great job on this at the Scale Model Shop) would testify, but it does avoid that sort of frustration. For me it is one of the top three factors in where I will shop online, along with availability and delivery service.

Cheers

Steve
