Morning

Had a problem spraying vallejo and not the first time this has happened.

Being using lacquer paint with no problems, this morning i used Tamiya LP varnish, perfect. Then cleaned airbrush and switched to vallejo model color, shook a lot and thinned, started to spray and this happened



The primer is Mr Surfacer and the vallejo is sitting on top of the primer in tiny bubbles, never had any problems using achlyric on top of lacquer?? Had this before but using non lacquer primer. Pressure was 20 psi, then dropped to 15 psi when i saw it happened, but no differance

I was able to remove the mess with wet cotton buds,

Can anybody advise

Looks like one for paint guy? My feeling is that you have orange peeling going on, where the paint is drying as it hits the model and can’t flow out on the surface to even up the surface. Try spraying from a little closer so the paint hits wet and can flow on the surface before it dries?

Tried my other airbrush, same, tried AK same??? Paint well shaken and thinned.

Both paints have not been used for a long time but as i said shaken and seems ok in the shot glass??

Used lacquer again not a problem

Sorry Bob, I can't really see the pictures clearly on my phone so working a bit blind.

I have had trouble with acrylics over Mr Surfacer though, mainly because it goes down so smoothly. That doesn't give the following acrylics much to cling on to so they can end up doing their own thing.

I get around it by dusting on a couple of almost invisible coats of acrylic and letting them dry before putting on a more normal coat. That breaks the surface tension and gives the paint something to grip to rather than flowing all over willy nilly.

Like I say, I can't see the pictures clearly so might be barking up the wrong tree, but will look at them again later if you aren't sorted by then.

Forgot to add, tried AK on Dragon.DS tracks which i washed first, same problem

The paint seemed to sit on top of the tracks in a mass of tiny bubbles, again washed off with water, tracks were not primed??

In the morning i'll prime the tracks with halfords plastic primer then try both same vallejo and AK

Just an idea but worth a try: Vallejo are water base and you are using them after alcohol base paints. Have you tried putting a cup or two of clean water through the airbrush after cleaning to clear out any possible residue of the alcohol/cleaner?

Hi Ian,

Not tried that? But i did try my sparmax airbrush which is clean and not used for a few months, but will try that one Ian

Got some plastic card which i will prime with halfords followed by vallejo again
