Simply gorgeous. Love the paint job I know I will never get a look like that. Terrific build.

Looks really good.

What paints did you use?

May I be bold and make a suggestion for the "squares around the guns"? These were self adhesive squares of doped fabric, rather like an old fashioned elastoplast. At this scale painted squares of Tamiya (or similar) masking tape look very convincing. It needs to be thin! For those who aren't aware of the function of these "patches" they stopped foreign objects entering the barrels or gun ports. They also prevented cold air entering the wing and freezing the guns.Spitfire guns were not electrically heated but received warm air ducted from the radiator(s). On the ground they also served as a warning that the guns were loaded AND COCKED! In other words don't fiddle in the cockpit and don't walk in front of the guns. The 20mm cannons had a red "condom" fitted over the muzzles for much the same reasons.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Junkers

What a beautiful Spit build. You should be well chuffed with this one! The paint job is a real success, and I'm sure your well researched weathering stains will make it even better! Could you give us some insight on your paint use and technique? Thanks!

Thank you for all of your compliments. As for the paints that I used, I used Testors Model Master Series paint and I also used my favorite brand Humbrol. I will try the tape to put over the gun ports. I didn't know that the guns got heat from the radiators, but that is a brilliant idea. Thanks for your input. I tried doing the soft camo edges for the first time it is actually a very easy process when you use an airbrush. I made stencils out of paper and made tape loops and attached the tape loops to the back of the paper to lift the stencil off of the model. I sprayed 90 degrees to the surface as to not to get over spray under the stencil. I always use to stick the mask right down tight to the surface and always got a sharp edge. This Tamiya kit has been a very enjoyable build. It isn't perfect but close enough for me. It is somewhat pricey but worth it. The wing roots had no gap to fix everything fit perfectly.

Thamks for that. The Testors range isn't available here yet (at least not last time I looked!) but I gather it will be soon. You've done a great job with them.

Cheers

hi curt, fantastic job youve done there, well done! cheers tony

Curt, I've been following this from the start and now I see the finished job I have the highest regards, not only for this superb job, but also the attention to detail and workmanship you 'flyers' put in to your projects generally.

Well done on a cracking job.

Hi JFJ yes I used a Badger airbrush. I am not the greatest at painting a whole model with a paint brush. I have alot of respect for those who can paint a model with a brush and make it look good, it takes alot of skill to do that, and there are plenty of good modelers who can do that.

Curt

Lovely job Curt , if you don`t mind me saying - if it was my model I would make a basic grass dio base then splash out for a nice perspex lid just to finnish it off , the standard of your spitfire is 1st class mate and needs to be displayed.

I hope you don`t think I`m being rude,

Richy. ( I want one now )

My wife keeps bugging me to make bases for my models, I might try and make a simple base for this one. No you aren`t being rude, suggestions are always appreciated. Thanks.
