How messy is your Workstaion?

Yes one model at a time.

Had to multi task in my career from early on & found this not only not a problem but at times very exciting in decision making. But not model making strange !

Decided on my 2 & 3rd build I would construct a Hurricane & Spitfire in tandem. Mainly as on the first model I found I was kicking my heels waiting for drying mostly (wretched enamel). I was surprised to find it did not work. I took a shine to the Hurricane & the Spitfire was left behind.

Also as soon as I heard about these "stashes" I thought they are mad buying all those models. But I seem now to have about 10 & growing. Mine increased as when building a model & with the end in sight I decide this or that will be the next & buy. Only to find I finish the model & then change my mind. Did it last week Wellington finished on Friday night out of the stash a Catalina lined up the week before then a Beaufighter then went out on Saturday open minded strolled into the Model Shop & bought a Wessex Helicopter of which a Helicopter had not entered my mind.

If it's any consolation I think that I'm an exception to the rule.

Hi Steve thanks for the feedback, have about ten models to build if I see something I like at a good price I am sucked in, it is probably because i have turned into a wee boy again lol need to ease up now : )....

What about your ultimate in work stations ?

First a round room with windows all around, all windows with individual motorised blinds connected to a fully automatic heat/cooling/air cleaning system with a super lighting system. All looking out on the magnificent Jersey scenery. Toilet module in the middle with sink wash module.

Ceiling with suspension for models on a motorised track.

Separate stations around the room for cutting glueing, gritcolin & preparation. A super room for airbrushing with silent compressors & multi air brushes & silent filtered air cleaning system. Super airbrush cleaners. Paint selection room housing the complete selection of 5 of the leading paint manufacturers. Each station with a screen for the latest editions on Scale Models.

A super seat with every type of adjustment on the market. The seat on a motorised track the track giving access to each work station by joystick.

An essential sob room with a super bed fitted with a soft mattress for recovery from stress conditions. An audio system for music & audio aircraft & military noises.

A huge stash room to house 10,000 models. A model finished room with air & battle fields & a harbour for shipping. Naturally fittings revolving, rising & falling to give full visibility of the models. The walls aglow with towns, country & sky scenes constantly changing as if real.

A wife to make & bring sandwiches & bring the odd grin & tonic. Must not to forget the "I am summoning you intercom system". Naturally the wife does the summoning.

Think that would just about do me.

The only thorn in my ideas she would be in with the noisy vacumn cleaner every morning.

I am at the moment looking into a new shed. The old one has a leaky roof and I am fast coming to the conclusion that it will be just as cheap to build a new shed....

So I am waiting for the drawing from the builders merchant so I can run it by the council..... 9x3 metre; 6metre for me, the rest for the garden tools.

Once its built, insulated, wired up and plumbed in (maybe) I might be moving the model bench out there.

Now this would be the icing one the ultimate work station lol.
 
I'm happy with what I've got now. It meets quite a few of Laurie's criteria. I'm home for a day off on Tuesday and will attempt to get a piccy with my usual inept photographic skills.

I'm sure you meant gin and tonic Laurie, but that really made me laugh. A grinning wife is sometimes all the tonic you need.

I'm looking at doing the same except thinking of buying one of those 50/50 shipping containers. 20ft x 8ft but it's split in half internally. You get a 10ft x 8ft storage area and a 10ft x 8ft office space. The office area comes with an electrical board, heating and lighting installed. Also means it's well secure too and if i decide to move house.... transportable lol

Hey Steve be interested to know what criteria from my crackpot fantasy project.

If you had lots of dosh to do something like this I suspect, that is I would, lose all sense of proportion & that the fanatasy would overtake the basis of the reason for providing it ie model making.

I am certainly happy in the corner of my garage with a radio (great stuff on the radio) peaceful despite noisy tumble dryer & washing machine (hearing turns off these very quickly) happy as Larry or Laurie & very satisfied with all that I do. Yes some frustration at times but I work through that.

Think we are all lucky what ever conditions we work in. In many places in the world they only have time for ensuring today's meal let alone any other activity. We cannot moan can we ?

Well,half glass all around and a glass roof. Large work area with an adjacent spray station with extractor. Plenty of storage including a cabinet just for paints (of which I have a lot). There is a sliding door at the bottom which looks down the garden enabling me to admire SWMBO's hard work on the planting.

The comfy chair etc goes without saying! There's room for my laptop if I want sounds though I prefer to work quietly.

My one slight regret is that I couldn't find room for my "library" which still fills cupboards and shelves elsewhere in the house.

I don't think SWMBO will be serving up G'nTs in there,though she does have the option of locking me out there if she wants :)

It's the first time in my life I've had a purpose built modelling area despite having built models for a large chunk of my adult,and juvenile,life. I'm not getting any younger and there's no pockets in shrouds soooo.....

I haven't used it yet,I got dragged out on this bloody Steps tour and already had another job lined up so it won't be until next month that I can get stuck in!

I have seen some of those and they ain't half bad. I know a couple of guys that use them simply because they are so secure. I did think about it, but as it will be sitting 10ft from the living room window, it wouldn't be the prettiest solution. Good point about if you move though.

You might want to consider a light roof on it though. Been in one while it was chucking it down. The sound was almost deafening.

Yes my omission from fantasy land & in practice Steve since down sizing. All of my library is in the attic & a very low attic about 4 feet high at the peak. Thought we had a spare room then youngest son came back to live at home. There we go. I used to be able to browse & see which book to read next. Now it is torture in the attic & fear of never getting out again.

I can't do that Laurie, i'm a bloke and can't multitask. So watching tv and building models at the same time is a no go lol.
