Got quite excited when postie handed over this box today. Couldn’t think what would need something this size. If you look very closely you will see what was in it, a single Star Wars figure

Had many a one from Azon, latest being a box 30x30x10inches for a bottle of touch up paint for the car.....
 
Probably what is just to hand! Some suppliers only have a few standard sizes - jiffy bag, shoe box, tea chest!:smiling2:

I guess a bigger box is less likely to get lost in the back of the delivery driver's van....

Yes, Amazon is one company that used to work like that but then got a lot 'greener'.
At my last employer, the computer record for each item we sold included a field for the weight and dimensions, and someone had worked out the smallest number of different sized cartons that would accept each item. Unfortunately they forgot to take account of the fact that some parts came from the factory packed in 10s or 100s but could be ordered singly, so the customer received one item in a box capable of holding 100.
