discussion How should we present dioramas?

Now I'm up and running with a dio. and on reading Andy's great comments on it, particularily his ref. to tutorial, set me to wondering.......

How should we present the progress with dioramas?

Just using mine as an example. Do I include any helpful How to's, tips and how I got over this and that, which I consider useful to fellow modellers, in the main thread?.....thus perhaps making the whole thing seem a bit long winded and drawn out.

Or....

Keep the main thread to a sort of "Here is the finished building"......How I did it can be found over on how to or tutorial, and in a way fragmenting the build flow.....

Any preferences chaps, which we could all adopt when embarking on similar builds in the future?

Particularily any thoughts from all the mods?

I just post as I'm going. I hope If any ones got a question they'll ask in the thread.

I try to include build tips (what I use etc) as i go along ... but without being to boring hopefully

Go into detail in the first place. Which can, if done to the nth degree, take up a full page!lol

I dunno Ron. I quite like reading bumf on how stuffs done but ill bet theres some that get bored reading and just want the piccies.

I'm the same... if I explained in full how i did certain things there'd be a few people phoning the Samaritons for help

i think it is better to show stages of the build and "how to's" in the original thread ron, makes things easier to find and nuch more interesting. and the really good how to's can be cross posted in the relavent how to section.

Hi Ron - welcome back.

I reckon you should do your posts in whatever way you feel comfortable. I don't think I'm alone in saying that I'm grateful that guys like yourself are willing to share your ideas with the rest of us. I'll go along with whichever way you choose to present them.

I think that you are doing fine as you are building and posting the build as you go. Sure if there is some special never before seen trick I am sure you will include it within the dialogue. Those that you feel are really worth an in depth explanation would be done in the tips and tricks, maybe with a link both ways, so the build thread links to the "in depth" and vis-versa.

I hope you know what I mean.

I think what I am trying to say is you are doing a pretty good job so far, and as I often say; If it works why try fixing it.

I agree with the general concensus ron , keep doing what youre doing. The explanations of how you came to a particular effect are great in with the thread, as Ian says ,then its all in one place. If you feel the need to expand on it then by all means put a post in the 'How to' section as well , cheers matey , tony

Yes, just keep doing it the way you were doing it, and if enough people ask about a certain technique or summat you could do a "how to" and link it to the main thread.

Looking forward to seeing the dio come together.
