discussion I hate 1/32 tiger moths

As the title says i have jus started my icm 1/32 tiger moth and lo and behold the wings are attached in exactly the same way as the matchbox of the same scale please see the attached picture and i just can't get the top wing to attach so its back in the stash unit i am ready to tackle them

WELL Dell i dont know about Peter but in my opinion its just havin the patience
to get the wing struts to fit in their holes an get the wings level an line up properly as i once built a 1/48th bi plane an it was a devil of a job to get right an my patience ran out an i binned it but that was many moons ago but i wont build another

on both the matchbox and the icm versions the struts are individually attached and are a pig to line up the icm is even worse as the struts are very thin and move around so until i have the patience and the mojo they will stay in their boxes

Might be an off the wall solution Peter , but perhaps pillars of blue tack between the wings would still give you full manoeuvrability of the top wing, but provide enough support to allow you to line up the wings and struts while they dry?

Peter this is how i would do it if i was doin your moth as ive got a lot more know how than when i tried to build mine many yrs ago but i think if you glue to end struts on the wing an then apply the top wing to the holes an at the moment dont worry about lineing up the others an when the top wing is on just put an elestastic band aound the wing to hold the wing in postion then gentlly move to the next lot nr the fusalarge an glue the in their holes an again an elastic band to hold in postion an so on like this till you get to the wings other side as the e-band will allow you to gently lift an place the wings in their right places

AHH I see, I had this issue with a Red Baron Fokker, I stuck with it but it put me off multi wing aircraft!!!

The funny thing is i built the airfix 1/48 version with no issues as the way the wings attached were completely different.

I've built the 1:32 Matchbox Moth and I seem to remember just attaching the upper wing to the cabane struts first, then leaving the glue to set for a couple of days.
Once the inner struts have completely set, there's just enough play in the wings to slide the outer struts in place.
It's still a bit of a pig to do, but a little easier.

I know I am dragging up an old post but after an afternoons fiddling I have finally cracked my old matchbox tiger moth so it won't be long before it's finished.

Good for you Peter. I think that when you come across a problem which results in the model going back in the box and then you come back to it and sort it there is a real feeling of satisfaction and achievement.
