I've never tried the salt chipping method Ian, preferring the longer, yet more controlled brush method so I'll be very interested in how your one turns out.

A half an hour with a hard toothbrush and the paint with the salt under it is gone. More or less...View attachment 78601

next sprinkle of salt is now drying ready for the camouflage to go on....
The hatches have been stuck on as well. Dont panic, I have only used liquid masking. A rather good way of sticking things down so they can be easily removed again.

Right then, The camouflage has been free handed. The destructions only show one side of the tank, so the other side is worked out from the back and front views....

I'll let this dry until tomorrow then attack it with the trusty toothbrush. I might even have to dig out the wire brush!

the camouflage, trued out well being hand painted and looks , like a nice blend were the 2 colors meet as well, soft so to say,

I am now contemplating a black and white demarcation band between the green and the sand. I will have to see how steady the hands are later. A few cups of coffee should help! LOL

The markings and the ID numbers might be a bit of a challenge....

I chickened out on the black/white demarcation line. There is just not enough coffee in the world at the moment!

It is now scrubbed off and apart from some very fine powdered salt that has become a part of the paint (!) and I have scratched it up a bit to get to bare metal here and there.

The decals have been put on. All five of them! They went on last night, and has had loads of micro sol put on. Today they got "abused" with a fibreglass pencil to weather them in to match the paint.

wow Ian, that has turned out so well in my eyes she is great,the weathering is spot on and seen some hard days work

have to ask have never seen or herd off a fibreglass pencil ? i can see what it dose and looks good,

I really like this chipping effect Ian!

You are doing an excellent work, all the model looks perfect.

You will apply some filter or wash before paint others effects or weathering...?

Monica, The fibreglass pencil is also known as a burnishing pen and is normally used for cleaning metal with before soldering. I think John had them in the shop. I know that model railway suppliers also sell them. Basically it is a pencil that instead of graphite has a bunch of hard glass fibre strands. A handy tool but watch out for the fibres they DO stick in your fingers and are hard to get out.

Polux: You don't think its weathered enough? lol. Neither did I!

So I dug out the oil paints....A couple or three hours later I have gotten this far.

I will let this settle over night and have another look at her tomorrow. See if I can find a bit more that needs sorting.

I have even 'popped' a couple of rivets.... Might do a couple more...

Not, I think is weathering enough but....

I'm obstinate as a mule , I said because, a filter would join the colors creating a subtler and homogeneous effect....

Now about these rubber band tracks. I am really not impressed with them and what I want to do with them... I will have to get hold of some individual link tracks!

So whats the difference between a filter and a wash?

Next trick will be with Vallejo powder pigments..... Have I said that these can be airbrushed....
