Mr. Ketchup in the house, Boss!!! Sorry I have been lagging on this monster, but I have to say you have overcome all the things that bite so far, Ian. Greasy resin is always a prob, but you've whipped that too. I like the color choice and I think it will look great on her. It's the dust that keeps me away from glossy paint...BTW, how much will this thing weigh when it's finished??? All that resin isn't the lightest in the world...

Glad to have you look in. The biggest lump of resin is the bonnet (engine cover). the overall weight? I'll have to weigh it when I'm done, lol.
First round of painting is down:

A few places could have been better, If it really bugs me, I can address them befor I move on. This is the base coat after all!
Next up is a gentle flat down to kill any nibs/fluff/dust. Then a 50/50 mix of clear gloss and pearl. I think.
Then the red candy...gulp.

I can believe it. I am almost out of paint! The cab needs at least on more coat. I have a tiny bit left that is to take the edges and the bottom of corners with and that is that! I need to order some more paint!

On the plus side it is quite smooth and has some shine to it. The cocktail was equal parts of Tamiya transparent red, Clead gloss and Mr self leveling thinners.

Of to order some paint! Hope that the storm here dont burger things up to much.

Wow Ian, that color coat really did come out well!!! You should be real happy with it Sir!!! I call you Sir, because you're a bit old now...

I hope you get your re-supply of paint without any probs so you can finish her up...

After a couple of days for the paint to harden I got the crane put together. The ends of the replaced pins and the hard hydraulic lines need painting silver or the like, then the hoses can be sorted.
I also cut off the naff control handels and replaced them with thin piano wire. but you cant see those as they are not fitted yet. I need to put a nob on the end of the shafts....Stop sniggering at the back. :smiling5::smiling6::tears-of-joy::tongue-out3:


I even got it so it can be posed open or folded! lol
Still need to fit the stabilser legs as well but I cant stand it up if I put them on befor I mount the crane on the truck.

Have been back at this one after a short pause.
My cat Valde was killed by a lorry last week, so my desire to build on this was very far away. Phew! That was hard to write...

A bit closer to being across the finish line.
I do though have a bit of a problem:


The INSIDE of the windscreen is rather misted up. It was fine when I masked it up, and had been in place for a few days as well befor the tape went down. So I am assuming that the thinners I was using has some how vapoured into the cab. Quite why it has only done the windscreen and not the sides, I have no idea?!
Just to add to the problem, the windscreen is attached from the inside befor the front was fixed to the cab. If Memory serves the front part of the cab with the clear part glued in place was waiting on the bench for the best part of a week!!!

So anyway.



The cab is only sitting loose in place while I try to get the other bits sorted; Side skirts etc,
Not 100% happy with the fit of the cab but as I tend to say (to often these days) It'll do.
Might have to run a pin-wash in the panel lines at there it a lot of white 'residue' from the polishing compound. Tried just about everything except a P cutter to remove it WITHOUT burgering the paint up. Also considering gluing the motor cover to the front of the cab to keep things in line. Truth is though that the bonnet is quite a flappy thing in real life and does sort of fit where it touches.
