Well fresh from the hanger after being repaired and repainted after a minor prang, ACM James Robb's Runabout is waiting for him to collect and show it off.

Before it got this deep blue paintjob and the code JMR it was in Light blue, with the code J*MR and was armed. Now resplendent in 'oxford blue' the cannons are removed and Robb has more stowage for uniform, and other "essential" baggage.

The kit was pretty good to build, if a little bend out of shape due to being either at the bottom of the stash to long of the cat sleeping on it. What ever, small stress marks in the plastic tell of its miss use before building, so I cant blame the kit.

I have noticed that the front screen has settled a bit off centre! Oh well.

All paints and clear varnish from Vallejo, model color. (see it can be airbrushed )

Decals from the stash and are made by True decals,

I have only seen photos of a model so I cant say if it ever existed in real life, but it is likely.

Aaron, the light blue Spitfire gradually replaced the pink one I did on here recently, and was used for the same photo work. One took the famous pictures of the smashed dams after 617 Sq. visited them....

Aaron. Have not built the earlier version ..... Yet.

Ron. No its not that light blue. The early version was "baby blue" whereas the early PU blue was, like the pink one, more white with a hint of blue. I think. I will let Edgar or Steve put me in my place on that one.

Ken a PU Pink is on the cards...Not just yet though as I don't want to steal Rons lime light...

Of course , a Candy apple or flip paint goes without saying , (remember my candy apple red BF 109 Reno racer?)

Not to sure if there is more to it other than James Robb being Air Commandant Marshal could pretty much chose what he wanted on 'his Spitfire'. I guess he liked the colour as well. Howver, I am not a Historian, I just stick bits of plastic together.

Model colour sprays just as well as model air. Well I think so. I always use Vallejo airbrush thinners. If need be a single drip of distilled water as well. I read that someone said the pigments are finer in model Air, but I think with a normal 'General purpose' needle/nozzel comb all is well. I push it through a 0,25 without problems. I will add that I do not consider the paint drying on the needle/nozzle sometimes as a problem, its just a part of the process.

Great looking Spitfire Ian, very clean and tidy. Air Chief Marshal James Robb would be pleased.

Spitfire SL721 still lives and flies, albeit now in different markings.
