Never worked with those 3D decals but they look impressive. Amazing how much work is involved in just painting a bomb. Good start Andy.

Cheers Steve. Yes I've used a few sets of 3d decals from different manufacturers and really like them. There are a few that I won't be using as I don't think they really add anything. A bit like PE sets I suppose.

As for the bombs, I guess I could have just painted them black and drawn the colours on with AK markers, but where's the fun in that 🙃

Thanks Joe & Tim.

This is no Spitfire or Mustang so good reference pics are a bit thin on the ground. Eventually it turns out the interior was all painted in a colour almost identical to extra dark sea grey. I had some MRP in that colour so gave it a blast.

I've still got more detail painting to do and the 3d decals to add, but after paint, a bit of highlighting, a wash, chipping and light drybrush I'm starting to get somewhere.

Thanks Ian

I had fun trying to stage these shots without committing to glue, but it's almost ready for closing up now. A couple of MG's to build for the rear and I can join the two fuselage halves, hiding much of this.

That's looking great Andy, lovely details 👍 I suppose a lot of the interior will be visible with all those windows?

Excellent detailing Andy. As the lads have said its a shame much will be hidden but at least you know its been done right.

Thanks again everyone, I'm glad you like it so far.

I have the fuselage closed up now, it'll get overnight to dry and I'll run some filler into the joints in the morning if needed:

It doesn't look like there'll be much to see in the rear once the main MG is in place, but I think the cockpit might actually be quite visible 😊

Cheers Steve, it went really well, fitting together very nicely. The only issue was the upper gunners seat, which is slung between the two sides on a couple of tiny mountings. I dropped it inside many times before it played ball 😂

I don't foresee any filler being needed. Last thing yesterday I brushed a bead of gloopy tamiya glue (white topped bottle) over the joints. As well as catching any bits I may have missed with the extra thin, it contains 11% solids, so helps fill any tiny gaps.

The joints have all been sorted and I've spent a bit of time rescribing panel lines. Some were victims of the sanding and some are an issue noted by others where they less distinct in certain areas.

I've fitted the cover around the rear gunners area and it shows what a strange design this aircraft is. Why make the canopy so large?

I've also been having a practice for the upper camo pattern, trying various methods from full freehand, mottle templates, and my favourite so far - using the template to give me a random base to start from, then joining or enlarging the shapes freehand.

It's taking some pretty precise use of the airbrush, very thin paint at around 5psi, but heaps of fun learning a new skill

Looking really good Andy. That mottle practice looks fantastic. Next time I need mottle doing I’m sending it to you 👍
