Cheers steven , yes its not a shake n bake is it !! Credit to ICM for adding all the details like engine and gun bays but if you dont want to have everything on show then its a battle to get it all to fit cheers tony

Now in primer . I decided to use white primer as it will make it easier to do the full invasion stripes and the yellow leading edge of the wing .

Now masked up for the stripes , the sky band on the fuselage and yellow on leading edges of wings have slso been applied . These will be masked up before the black stripes are sprayed . After that they will be masked up too then the camo can start to go on , what a faff ! I dont like doing invasion stripes!

Same here, especially as I usually forget to spray the area white first so I have to mask for the white stripes, then for the black...

Heres one Ive had in the stash a while and finally plucked up the courage ( beer , geddit ? Ok I’ll get me coat ) to start it. Its the 1/48 Spitfire mk IX from ICM with the addition of some wooden beer barrels for this boxing .Incredibly several Spitfires and later Typhoons were adapted to carry beer to the troops in France just after D Day. Look it up ,its a brilliant story of ingenuity , it caught my attention - spitfire , beer , not surprising really !- so I had to have it. Its a nice looking kit BUT by all accounts can be a pig to get together. Looking at the complete Merlin engine and very fragile, delicate nature of the nose area once the panels have been cut off , I,m going to build it without the engine if I can. It still looks like it will be tricky as the fuselage halves are a little warped and dont feature any locating pegs . That said the cockpit looks very nicely done , just some belts to add so thats where im going to start ( note ,instructions stages 1- 25 skipped straight over ! ) .
Ive a feeling this is going to put up a fight but deep breath , here we go.

After a slight pause ( holiday) its back to the spitfire . The yellow leading edges and the sky band on the rear fuselage have been masked off and the black stripes sprayed . Next is masking off the black and then on with the camo colours , starting with the medium sea grey undersides . BTW , during handling and masking after priming I noted a fair bit of scratching and chipping on the white AK interactive primer . I got this stuff because I wanted a hardwearing , white with good covering power - so far it doesn't seem to be fulfilling either of those two criteria ! I didn't thin it , as instructed , and left it for well over 24 hours to cure before doing anything with it , but its not really filling me with confidence. I hope that when I unmask after all the paintings done I’m not faced with peeling back to bare plastic !

Underside sprayed medium sea grey yesterday. Masked off today , and got the first top colour on , ocean grey .

Green on yesterday , so today the masking came off . Thankfully no peeling paint just quite a few touch ups required . Once its been neatened up it ready for a coat of gloss and then decals .

Touch ups done and two coats of Klear later and it was time for the decals. Tgese went on ok , quite glossy but very thin - care needs to be taken with the small stencils as they can fold over on themselves quite easily . Next is a coat of satin to seal everything in and then lots of little finishing bits to add . Oh btw , the beer is ready so anyone fancy a pint ?

Cheers joe , I was relieved that nothing peeled , most of the marks were where the white primer had chipped and scratched off while being handled before the paint went on. I’m not impressed with the AK primer at all and will be trying some UMP ( UK license produced stynlrez ) in the future .
And the beers flowing nicely , theres a pint on the end of the wing waiting for you

All the final bits have been added now ,canopy unmasked and the beer barrels attached . Heres a few pics to finish the build thread , I’ll post some more tomorrow when ive cleaned the bench off , thanks to all who have commented , cheers tony
