It really bothered me initially that I couldn't model as much as I wanted to but it went downhill pretty quickly and pretty soon I wasn't even thinking about cutting, gluing and painting plastic, just trying to understand what was going on?
I'm the type of guy that ignores pretty much all types of illnesses and a testament to that is that after my accident falling down the stairs and fracturing my pelvic and compressed my spine so hard that I lost 6.5 cm in length I just crawled up and in and only worried about if anyone had seen me?! I then waited two weeks before calling the hospital...
My doctor knows this so when I called him to say that I was worried he knew it wasn't just some minor thing and started the A-Z list of available lab tests!

I'm still far from recovered but I'm at least 90% better so I can't complain at all - and apparently I'm well enough to start modelling again!!!

Not being able to drive and living really rural was a problem for sure but I picked the times when traffic was virtually nil so I could sneak down to the shop 7 miles down the road doing something like 20-ish mph instead of 50
The kids were on trolley duty and we made sure we had plenty of food at home to last us a couple of weeks each time. Driving the scenic route here during the off hours means you're pretty much alone on the roads and it was as safe as it could be. At least I wasn't in any danger (or anybody else for that matter... :tongue-out

I still would like to know what it was because it'll probably come back again at some stage, but if/when it happens there is a long list of tests they're going to run right away to see if they can catch it next time?
My doctor thinks if he can start the tests early next time the chance of success is much higher than last time.
Or perhaps it was just a one off thing?

Anyhow I feel 90%-ish better now and I couldn't ask for more so I'll see you in and around the forums again from now on!

Glad you’re feeling better. I too suffer from migraine attacks, so know how debilitating they are. I also suffer from sleep apnoea and recently found that despite maintaining the required treatment regime, I was getting increased incidence of migraine attacks, up to six a week, caused by the hypoxia inherent in this condition. I’m fine again now after the treatment regime was adjusted, but after reading your synopsis am wondering if you are suffering from something similar? It’s an easy condition to overlook as you are basically asleep when it happens....

My sleeping pattern is really bad and there's sadly little I can do about it due to meds causing havoc on the system.
When I can maintain status quo with my pain I have a better than average chance of getting 5-6 hours of sleep during the night, but as soon as the kids have gone to school I usually take a short nap - that often lasts until 13:00-13:45-ish and I'm tired for the rest of the evening - until it's time to fall asleep that is.

When I've had to take more meds for the pain I can't sleep at all. Currently I've got a really bad trapped nerve so I haven't slept for the last 40+ hours at the moment, and I don't feel tired either.
I will get some sleep tonight regardless because the body will clock out at some stage, and the whole of tomorrow will be a haze.

I've had it like this for the last 9 years so I'm not sure how much lack of regular sleep has to do with what happened to me, but it surely didn't help it, that I'm sure about!
I wore a weird shower-cap thing for 48 hours where they recorded my brain activity the whole duration and I think they'd pick up on something like that, but this is quite far outside my skill set so who knows?

Not sleeping properly will cause problems because that's how we're designed.

I will be more observant the next time regarding recent sleep patterns because it's not something we've explicitly discussed?!

Good to see you back Jens. About 3 years ago I was having dizzy turns and losing my balance. They used to last about an hour and left me feeling really tired. I had numerous tests and scans and was eventually diagnosed with menieres disease. I am on medication now (only 1 tablet a day) but been ok since so they must be working. Take care.

I've had tinnitus since I was 18-ish after a pretty bad explosion that blew out both of my ear drums but when I got closer to 40 it started to fade out and today I rarely notice my tinnitus at all. Only after loud white noise or loud high-pitched sounds.

I remember reading something recently about high pressure in the inner ear causing dizziness and loss of balance thinking I'd bring it up with my doctor, but I have to admit that I totally forgot about this and if you hadn't mentioned it I would probably not have remembered it even if/when I got the same ordeal again?!
I sometimes lose most of my hearing when I have my migraines and perhaps it's something as simple as that?
They found clear signs of a big infection in my system and perhaps otitis media was the culprit? We didn't poke around in my ears during the tests. Not that I can remember...?

I'll make sure to follow this up if/when it happens again!

Sorry about the sleep issues, that must be pretty grim at times. Sleep is something we all take for granted until it is disrupted or hard to come by, and then the issue becomes really debilitating really quickly to the point whereby you just exist rather than live.
The hearing issue is almost certainly a side effect of the migraine. They come with all sorts of stimulatory issues. Some of mine are that during an attack I feel as if I am walking around a right handed corner when I walk in a straight line......and vision in the left eye has a shadow in the middle of the visual area. I sometimes lose all close focus vision as well. Great news about the tumor though, and they would have ruled out strokes and blood clots as well....
