Hi Dave
If the sat nav in your Merc is like the one in my Audi you can only turn her up when she’s actually speaking…..just use the volume control on the CD player (or steering wheel) when she’s blathering on to set her where you want….

Tried the volume control on the centre console and it doesn't work. Will try the one on the steering wheel.

As to recording in MP3 you should be able to do this directly from the file source (usually a Wav file) using the “save as” command on acPC. When you are using it, set up the target to be saved to, the CD drive in this case, then change the file type to be saved to MP3. Failing that, have a look for a CD ripper program. There should be quite a few around for free.

I have had a look on the 'net and all the sites I've looked at recommend a CD-R disc as CD-RW discs don't always work. I'll grab a couple of those next time I'm out and about and see how it goes.

No probs Dave. Somewhere like Tescos are good for CD-R disks. Should be pretty cheap. They are right about CD-RWs though. I’ve found they only really work reliably on the player that records them. You will get a load of MP3 tracks onto a CD-R, so don’t go mad. Ten (or even five if you can find them) should do you proud. Only thing is, you can just record to them once, so set up a good disk full before you start burning the CD

I've got a 5-CD changer in my motor which will be plenty big enough for all the music I want if I can record them as MP3s, so I won't be going overboard and buying huge quantities of discs.

What I was trying to say regarding CD-Rs is that you can’t treat them like old cassettes. You can only record on to them once. You can’t add to the recordings after the first recording session. To be honest, i had a five changer in a previous car and just used to load it with CDs. 5 discs is a lot of music…..

AN I dont use my 6 spk system in the car as i find that my hard sports supensheion is so bumpy that i cant hear the music properly an gettin on now so i find its a disstraction from driven so no music unless im stopped an just sittin in the car plus all the music i hear is up in my model room when workin on my tiger an i never listen to the radio as its not what i like an enough to send me round the bend lol

WELL Dave the volume goes up to 60 an i play it at 20 as thats enough to give me a headacke if to loud as them big spk's certainly blasts it out once treid to get it full up but got as far as 45 with out my hearin aid in an the neigbours started to complain while i washin the car down so never have had it flat out lol an there is a specail cutout by the computer if its hittin the battery to hard while engine not goin so never have to worry about havin a flat batt while playin the music

I knew that you can only record onto CD-Rs once. I've got about 1000 songs on my 'puter, so 5 discs should allow enough space for all of them - certainly all the ones I listen to most often.

WOW Dave a 1000 songs do you listen to it all day ? as about 20 songs is my limit till i get in me tiger room then yes im play the casstes an cd's all day but only softly so i can hear me singin to the songs from the 60's an 70's nothing elese ps jen has her earplugs in lol

I have to use earphones at home as I play a lot of my music in the wee small hours of the morning. My neighbours wouldn't appreciate ANY loud music at those times, let alone the type of music I listen to. So the car is the only place I can really blast away. I've had some funny looks at traffic lights and in queues, but if I can put up with what I hear from other people's motors, then b****r 'em! They'll just have to put up with mine!

I do like rock but I'm not a heavy metal fan. Most of the bands I've tried to listen to have substituted noise for talent - why do all the guitarists either play distorted notes or have the speakers set to distort the sound?

I'll generally pick an artist or album to listen to, and I've put together a few playlists of particular types of music. I'll listen to music whenever I'm doing something on the 'net or driving. I can't listen while modelling as I'm usually rockin' an' boppin' about so not good for fine, steady detail stuff!
