I've seen some nice builds and reviews of the Revell 1/144 Gepard Klasse 143 Schnellboot. I've got one in my stash so I thought I'd have a quick look and see what it's like.

I test fit the hull parts and found what everyone else did - they fit together well with only minimal need for attention with just a smear of putty here and there.

How come I'm the only one who found this?

I know it's an easy fix (I'll have to assemble and test fit the bridge to find out if I should fill this gap here, or move the rear deck forward and add a piece right at the stern), but no-one else has this gap or comments on it being there.

Am I just unlucky or have I upset the god of modelling?

Leave it like that Dave then when completed use it as a money box.

Joking aside that gap is huge

Not being daft but have you checked that the stern end of the deck is placed correctly....

You're not alone Dave - most people have found the new-tool Airfix FW 190 a joy to build. Some, like me, have found it an ill-fitting swine!

interesting and good to know.....................cos ive got one of these and keep putting off making a start on it! o_O

Not a daft question, but I have made sure that both the bow and stern fit flush where they're supposed to .....

Phew! Thanks Patrick. I was beginning to wonder if I had been cursed. Nice to know I'm not the only one suffering from kits that seem different to everybody else's!

Its meant to be there Dave , its an expansion gap , designed to allow the hull to flex like a hinge in heavy seas.

honest ....

You mean like the floor plates in Concorde? Aren't you supposed to be able to see daylight through the gaps when it's travelling at max. speed?

Don't let that put you off Paul. I've test fit the bridge assembly and it all fits nicely if you slide the rear deck forward to close that gap. You'll need to build up the rear part of the deck with a piece of plasticard to bring it flush with the stern of the hull but that's really simple - even for me!

Just a thoght, Roman vejlad has built one of these... ask him if there was a trick to it

ive been dying to find an excuse to build this since i bought it about two years ago......what keeps putting me off is that its too long to fit in my display cabinet and until i can think of something else it will stay in the 'too big to build' section of the stash :D

I saw Roman's build - it was one of the ones that inspired me to take a look at the kit. He only mentions that some minor attention is needed to get the hull parts perfect.

Oh c'mon Paul! That's no excuse. Just 'cos you got no room for the finished thing don't mean you can't build it. We wouldn't have any built models to look at on the forum if we all thought that way!

Sooner or later you'll have to get a bigger cabinet anyway, so why not build this so you got a valid reason to get one now? :)

lol, thats the whole point,.....i havnt got room for a bigger cabinet! :P

what would i do with it if i built it with no where to put it?....it would get covered in dust and i hate that, and since i know pretty well what im building for the next 14 months its a shame its not on the list :D :D

If you ain't got room for a bigger cabinet, it strikes me you've only got one option - you gotta get a bigger house. You simply can't let all these trivial details stand in the way of your modelling!

PS The least you could do is test fit the hull and deck to see if it's just my kit that's c****d up! :)
