Well, I used Vallejo acrylic matt clear (that 500ml bottle they have)for my Market Garden build and sprayed it directly from the bottle with my Aztek 470 no problems at all. But I build it up with several thin layers.

Not sure if it helps.

Cheers Richi

hi Richi, any help is good help, thats the same one i have but have never used it,

so around what psi do you use as i have a cheap AB lol, with its own mind,

Do not use the Vallejo varnishes. They will wreck your model. I know this sounds weird concerning the brand name, but go and get yourself some Humbrol satin, Matt and gloss enamel varnish. These varnishes are great, and basically the only good product Humbrol makes.

ta Richi, so around a med setting that would work out to be, ? some think like 12 or 15 psi at a distance ?

oh real John thks for the info ,there is always diffidence schools of thou on this one ? thats the reason I,m asking

but with the humbrol, do you need to thin as well ? and dose it clean up ok after use with the AB, and do you need to get humbrol clearer as well ?

Hi John,

I think that's a matter of opinion. I had and have perfect results with the Vallejo varnish.

Moni the Compressor spits out 2,6 bar that's in psi 38

But I turn it down to 1.6 bar sorry will correct that in my other post.

Best way is to make a test piece and try different settings in the pressure I use allot of it and others use less like 10 /12 psi

cheers Richi

No. With Humbrol you can use it straight from the bottle. It cleans up fine with some Tamiya XF-21 enamel type.

Really!

I use Vallejo acrylics pretty much all the time and have had one mishap with their varnishes.

The Humbrol varnishes are also good but if you dont thrash the life out of them the satin and mat are just as shiny as the gloss.

Humbrol Paints are some of the best enamel paints I have used. They did have problems when they moved the production out of the UK, but now they are back again and all is good.

hi Ian, thank you for your input as well, the thing is i have only brushed some over decals that all,

and never sprayed it, as I have the cleaner ,thinners for vallejo, and just did not real wont to spend ,

if i dont real need too,

I will try it out later today and if it dose go sideways i will cry, :(

I would just like to give the same advice as I always do:

When trying something new for the first time always try it out on a junker or at least a piece of plastic card first. Use the same primer, paint and other coats as you have on the model and see how it works and there are no reactions. If all is well then you know it should be safe to do on the actual model.

That might have more to do with something that you were doing rather than the product :)

As it happens the only Vallejo products I use are the matt and satin varnishes and they have never let me down.

Cheers

Steve

Actually there is no such product as Vallejo Clear. There is Humbrol Clear.

But think I can guess what you mean. For once a man's logic.

Not sure what you want to achieve Moni.

If you want a finish to apply decals to avoid as much as possible silvering. Then I have found the best to be Humbrol Clear. Also if you need gloss then just apply more coats of thi product to increase the glossiness.

For a matt finish I have found Vallejo matt to be a first class product. It gives the mattish finish you are likely ever to want.

Satin between the two. Do not know not had yet an occasion to need the finish.

Matter of interest. If you need a gloss colour. Just add Vallejo Gloss to the basic Vallejo matt colour it works very well.

Tamiya XF-21 is paint- (sky if I recall). I cant see that being an effective cleaner.

Use the Vallejo that you have. Flush the airbrush with lots of distilled water then give it a good clean with undiluted thinner IMMEDIATELY after use. One thing that Vallejo varnishes are very good at are clotting up airbrushes. A good clean up soon sorts it out. Just don't let it dry in the airbrush.

Ian M

Could not agree more Ian. Best product for clotting.

I have recently resorted to flushing the airbrush when using Vallejo varnishes with just Vallejo air brush cleaner as it goes off so quickly.

ta Ian ,Steve and Laurie,

well what im coating is the painted pin stripped suit, for one

and also need to put a few more coats of dull over the decals, as Jim said that he had uses testers dull coat,

and as there done on ink-jet so take away the chance of them running ;)

I,m just trying to save a little $ as if i dont need to go buy some think else .Im not

so most import, dont mess about with it to much spay whats needed then start to clear right away, sounds the rule for you guys ;)

thank you all for your advice ,ran out of time again to get to the bench, maybe get a change in the next few days,

have the suit sitting in a plastic box out of harms way :D

Hello folks...my first bit of input..duh duh duh duuuuhhhh!

I use Vallejo Model air varnishes, Matt, Satin and Gloss. They all spray on brilliantly, especially the Satin and Matt, but I have found that you need to apply the thinners through the ol' airbrush.

Say three of four drops , well mixed and they seem to flow a little slicker.

They do take a while to cure properly, and I usually leave a gloss varnish about a week until I polish it up.
