This is the old AMT/ERTL kit re-released by Italeri. It features fine engraved panel lines and nicely detailed undercarriage and cockpit.Ive finished it in the markings of an unknown RAF squadron in Tunisia 1943.I first built this kit around 20 years ago when it was first released as a solid nose A20G Havoc variant. This issue has a separate glazed bomber nose for an RAF mk3 Boston. The nose section isn't a brilliant fit and needed a fair bit of filling and sanding.I then found the clear nose part was a bad fit.I should have spent more time on it.I also managed to drop the model onto the concrete floor of my garage. This cracked the cockpit canopy.Anyway ,I decided to use the model as a weathering exercise.i sprayed the undersides Humbrol enamel azure blue. Then I lightened the colour with some white and sprayed it in the centre of panels. The upper surface camo was painted with Xtracolour enamel dark earth and middle stone.Again,I then sprayed the same colours mixed with a bit of white in the centre of panels.Ive been reading about oil paint weathering and decided to give it a go.I put small spots of different shades of brown ,yellow and some black all over the model with the end of a cocktail stick. Then taking a brush dampened with white spirit I pulled the paint dots back across the model in the direction of the airflow.I also tried to replicate wear by dabbing a piece of sponge with aluminium paint on it onto the wing roots. Finally,I sealed it all with Alclad matte cote. And for my first proper weathering job,I'm rather pleased with it.View attachment 116386

Great build.
Thanks Polux.Yes it's good learning new techniques. For years I have been finishing my models in factory fresh paint jobs. But since joining this forum I have wanted to learn weathering skills.ive messed around with panel line washes and exhaust stains. But this is the first time I've had the nerve to completely weather a perfect paint job.Theres no stopping me now!.

Great work Dave the weathering experiment seems to have gone very well it looks very good indeed

That's a strange looking aircraft..but you have done it total justice with your cracking build and superb weathering..

Very nice Dave. i know the feeling Dave. Finish the paint before effects and weathering

and I is a horrible step into the unknown will it look OK.

Started in effects and weathering 12 months ago and now found it very enjoyable.

Makes you think and work at it.

magnificent build Dave,I real like the looks of this one,and also has subtle weathering ;)

Nice one Dave came out well, I have just started Revells 1/48 Jaguar as a lesson in aircraft building, so different from armour, so you have done well here.

Pas with 'flying colours' really nice. Only improvements I can make out might be the cockpit masking but I've never done an aircraft and it looks like the hardest thing ever

very nice, and well done on the weathering, always a leap of faith, all that time spent building and painting then weathering - by the grace of god go I

Nice one Dave. I'll add my voice to chorus of praise for the weathering, the faded, patchy look comes off really well.

Another cracker Dave. The weathering looks just right, giving a used and operational look without over powering the base paint work. Great stuff.

A great build & paint job of a rarely seen model.. Well done Dave.

John.

Really very good Dave, well built, well painted and nicely weathered. A word of warning though mate. Weathering can be very addictive:D
