Does anyone know what width

the white stripes should be on the underside of a JV 44 FW 190?

The scale is 1/48, so I was thinking 3mm? None of the builds I've googled mention this info.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Dont hang mu up on it but I think they're about 50mm in real size and.... were painted free hand, probably with a 50mm brush.... So

I'm sure one of the Luftwaffe fans will come and put me in place. Just think I read it some place..

I believe the white stripes were applied in the field over the red undersides and were quite rough and with no exact measurements. There are 18 white strips separating 20 red areas across the main wings. You could probably measure it out from that information.

Agree. On the few surviving images the stripes are less than perfectly applied. When I masked mine I attempted to get them more or less correct knowing that human error (mine) would make them just imperfect enough to look right in scale :)

Sorry about the terrible photo, it's all I could find of mine.

Thanks guys, I do like the idea of them being ' imperfectly applied '! That's my usual standard :)

I reckon that the evidence of the originals showed that the lines were masked, but they are still not perfect. I bet someone stretched some bits of tape from front to back of the wing and painted in between.
