Hi friends!

After a calm and friendly chat with Darth Vader....maybe I will join to the dark side....

I love the large scale models, and the planes are not an expeption.

Want you all help me to search the top 10 large models (1/32 & 1/24).

I'm asking for your opinion and experience, not for a review...those ones are usually not much "credible", business...

And the brands..? Tamiya, HK Models, Eduard, Kitty Hawk, Wingnut Wings...? I hear those last ones are magnificent, inclusive some forums has a special section for his models!

My vote is the 1/24 Airfix Stuka, is old and the pieces don't fit well....but it brings you the possibility to build this lovely plane at large scale.

And maybe the Wingout wings...I never built one, but there is no place on this planet where someone wrotes

a bad comment about them.

Revells 1/32 hawker hunter isn't a bad kit , a few fit issues in the fuselage but good and it's not a difficult kit with loads of pieces so it's easy for beignets and seasoned old experts

I always big this one up , the fantastic revell 1/32 Arado Ar 196 float plane , this is a beauty and looks fantastic when finished

If you want to go REALLY big, try the 1/18 scale SBD-3 Dauntless by Merit International. This kit is huge and has some great detail.....I'm in the process of building one at the moment, I'll see if I can scare up some pics later.

For aeroplanes you are fairly limited in 1/24 scale but in 1/32 there is an ever growing number of kits, some very good, some not so good.

I've never built a Wingnut Wings kit because I'm scared of anything with more wings than a monoplane, but everything I've read or heard about them has been good.

It's not a particularly large aircraft Polux, but Revell's 1/32 He162 is a very nice kit. Hardly any flash, good fit & lovely details.

Vaughan did a great build on it a while a go & that's what I'm using as a reference for mine.

Revell's recent 109G's (G-6 and G-10) are wonderful kits. Easy to build, and lots of aftermarket goodies available. Highly recommended imho.

I just finished the 1/32 Hasegawa Mustang, IMHO it was the best kit I've ever built, perfect fit and nicely detailed.

I don't really have a favourite. If I had to list a few then this is how I'd do it.

At the top would be the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire IX (which is very expensive).A cheaper Spitfire option would be the new Revell kit which looks good but I haven't built it yet. The Hobbyboss kit isn't bad either.

The Cyberhobby Bf 109 E is, in my opinion, the best Bf 109 kit out there, of any mark, period. The old Hasegawa kits still stand up well.

I'd put Trumpeter's Me 262 (yes, Trumpeter!) right up near the top too. It's a well engineered, accurate and detailed kit with superb fit. I wouldn't bother with anything else.

A more esoteric option might be PCM's Tempest V which was a good build too, maybe after a few other aircraft builds though, as it does not fall together. I don't doubt your model making skills but for developing them and applying them to aircraft, this isn't the kit to start with.

If you want something really big then the Revell Ju 88 or He 111 would fit the bill. I didn't find that the Ju 88 matched the rave reviews but it still makes an impressive model.

There are many 1/32 kits out there now and many of the newer ones in particular are very good. I'm not interested in a millimetre here or there. I do like the model to capture the overall 'look' of the subject.

Don't forget all this is just my opinion and you are likely to get as many opinions as people you ask

In general i would say for detail and fit, Tamiya. a bit pricy but worth it.

Another vote for the Arado as well. A joy to build. now you say large but do you mean large scale or just large?

Only air craft?Italeri's 1/35 scale torpedo boats are rather good as well

Dragon 1:32 Bf 110 family. I have two in the stash and they are of a reasonable size. The fit is great as well, and they are multi media kits. The new revell Uhu and Bf 109 Gustav in 1:32 seems nice as well. Oh, and don't forget the Tamiya 1:32 P-51 Mustang (though a bit pricey)

And Eduard's 1:32 Bf 109. Also, take note of the Zoukei Mura products. And lastly, Trumpeter's big 1:32 Avenger. The trumpy Me 262iz good, although some fit around the cowling is dodgy.

The best large scale planes must be the Tamiya 1:32 Superkits, expensive but worth every penny for fit detail and accuracy:

The three Spitfires, the IX, the VIII and the XVI - I have the latter two,

The Mustang versions (D&K)

The two Zero versions (often overlooked but are definately among the superkits and in fact were the first of the WW2 1/32 subjects)

Not to forget the latest, the outstanding Corsair

Then there are a few 1:32s from other manufacturers that stand out from the crowd:

The Trumpeter Dauntless (outstanding, Tammy standard of fit but get aftermarket decals...)

The Trumpeter Me 262

The Trumpeter Swordfish

The Dragon Bf110 (a great kit shame about the instructions - aftermarket decals and seat belts advised)

The Hasegawa Ki84 Frank is one of my favourites

The Hobbyboss Stormovik

In 1:24 you have to include the new Airfix Hawker Typhoon and I agree their Stuka is a good kit (I built it many years ago when it was first released) and the Trumpeter Hurricane is suopposed to be good.

I'm not looking for any special Ian. I'm just trying to create a "serious" list with all the members.

Ask for large planes is more easy than ask for 1/35 armour vehicles...

I've built a couple of these. They were very pricey, particularly as I got hit for customs and handling charges. Nice kits but with a lot of extraneous detail (like some Trumpeter kits but much more) which will only be seen if you pose the model opened up. That will work for some people but I like a more realistic pose myself.

The fit is not 'Tamiyaesque' but it's not bad either. The kits do take a bit of building but nothing that your average modeller can't manage.

Here's a Zoukei-Mura Ta 152. Laurie will be delighted to know that this was built a few years ago and painted with acrylic paints

Here's my suggestion for all the non plane people give the airfix 1/12 Bentley ago it is a realy nice kit.

From the articles I have read recently I think the Revel Arado 196 must be at the top of the list. I would also include the Airfix 1/24th Mosquito, which must rank amongst one of the largest but still includes amazing levels of detail in both engine bays, gun bays, wheel wells etc.

I am with Steve though in not being sure if we are talking large scale or large kit. If you are into space models the Revel 1/72nd Saturn V is a pretty impressive piece as are some of the new 1/200th scale warships such as the Trumpeter Bismarck.

I still love the first Airfix 1/24th Spitfire though. To me, at the time it was released, it was huge and I loved the presence it had on the shelf. Especially when it was joined by the 109 next to it. Not the best kits nowadays but the upgraded versions lift them significantly and there are one or two aftermarket bits so you can still make a stunning model with them.

If you want to get really ouitside the box (pun intended!) get into model boat kits. My 1/35th Irish Sea Coaster weighs in at over 32lbs, ballasted to her load line, and is around four foot long. There are even bigger ship kits out there as well!

I know is really difficult, but with a long time and work, we can create (on our forum) a list of the "best kits"....
