My next victim, and a few primers to try out.

Unfortunately SMS only had enormous bottles of levelling thinner in stock so will have to see how I go with the regular one for now. My son needed a dark wash for his miniature painting so it gave me an excuse to try one out :smiling5:

I've admired the A-10 since I was a kid so it was on my wishlist of models to build. Need to scratch my head now and think about what's next.

Andy, I love the A-10 too and when I was in the military I had the opportunity to watch a live demonstration of their firepower in Grafenwöhr, Germany, in the 80's. There were two of them and one covered the other in and during their runs. The first one came in on target (a convoy of old vehicles on the range) flying up side down. At a kilometer out, he turned 180° up right and let go a blast from the chain gun. The force of the firing seemed to stop the A-10 dead in the air and it rained empty shell cases everywhere. He then dropped 2 bombs on the convoy before climbing away in a steep bank upwards. This is the most vulnerable time for the A-10 as it banks away and why the other one covers his banking move. The second one then loops around and comes in the same way. First up side down, then right side up, a blast of the chain gun and then drops 2 bombs before banking away...............................

My hair still stands up when I think about that day and the demonstration of the A-10s. I would never ever want to be on the receiving end of an A-10 for sure!!!! Sorry for the long post...

Andy, It is an experience no one could never forget and dummy me didn't have a camera...The most amazing thing is when the pilot fires the chain gun, it has such a force, it actually does slow the A-10 down quite a bit. There may be a video on YouTube, but I really don't know, that would show this. Incredible!!!

My A-10 story isn’t quite as impressive, but I have seen an A-10 do mock strafing runs. I was going home one day and saw a plane flying very low, diving toward things and pulling up again, and quickly pegged it as an A-10 (as if you could mistake that for anything else ). Stopping to take a look (of course), I realised it was making attack runs against points in the landscape and buildings and things, which is not something you see every day in the rural environs of Zeeland. From the newspaper the next day, I learned that a Dutch Air Force FAC team had been exercising with the help of the USAF.

This is the most vulnerable time for the A-10 as it banks away and why the other one covers his banking move.

OTOH, you can still get home with it if the enemy does this to your plane:

Plus one engine out and no hydraulics, apparently.

Real pilots love them because you REALLY fly the airplane. Virtually no control avionics to speak of, so no computers to tell you what you can't do. PaulE

Oh, some great goods for the stash there everybody!!! My stash really doesn't need anymore stuff, but, For €14 to the door, I couldn't resist this evilbay deal,

An oldie and the resin tires came with it. I'll probably get to build this around 2027 with any luck!

Not getting the correct kit from another evilbay seller and the whole deal made me want the KHD Maultier even more so,

The correct kit and it only was €4,50 more. 2025 build date for this one....I also got a few needed goodies along with it,

Some Tamiya paints are always good to have and a wash recommended by Tim Marlow for my attempt at the figure painting GB. Sanding sticks were a very cool thing too. I can not resist a good price for a set of Friul Panther sprockets either. Giuseppe from Friul doesn't bring any of the sprockets or idlers to the SMC, just tracks. Lastly, the much needed cable for my Steyr 2000 to fill the reels behind the front seats and for the field phone reel……...

I also have a few more goodies in the post on their way here. Dang evilbay, I must stay away, I really must stay away.........…….
