I have saved a few cereal packets so I will start with cardboard mock-ups for experimentation. Once I have perfected the levitation I will build the kits. Once I have the magnets I will start a new thread to chart my experimentation.

Unfortunately simple magnets won't be enough Rik. Earnshaws theorem essentially states that...

As a practical consequence, then, this theorem also states that there is no possible static configuration of ferromagnets which can stably levitate an object against gravity, even when the magnetic forces are stronger than the gravitational forces.

If you manage it, you'll become a multi millionaire!

I believe that theorem referres to single magnetic fields. I plan to use a multitude of magnets to "force" stability. I have been looking around the net and found quite a few working examples of magnetic levitation, all using multiple magnetic fields to force reasonable or better stability.

I've seen those examples too & all say that the effect is unstable and short-lived. There is a company using a CMT 2 device to give stable magnetic levitation, but that's not yet commercially viable.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not knocking your efforts. Personally I'd love to see it happen as I've tried it before without success.

Well I can but try. I can see how movement and vibration can be a big issue but if I get this working it will be sat on a stable non moving surface.

It turned up today!

It's been more than 20 years since I have built an aircraft and I never did a Spitfire even tho I always wanted one so I'm looking forward to this one.

Given up on the maglev idea as the kit comes with a decent looking stand, so, instead, both aircraft will be fitted with tiny motors that I already have. I'm also thinking of painting the stand sky blue with some white to represent clouds, might look ok.

Picked this up yesterday as it was reduced to £17. :)

I believe it's a fairly old kit, but at that price it's perfect for a newb like me to practice on.

Nice one ;)
You will participate on the modern armour GB......? :D

I didn't need it and I didn't want it I only brought it because it was there (yeah right) but I could do with a challenge.
And I only wanted a tin of paintView attachment 273831
