I got the new Airfix 1/72 Mustang in RAF colours. It looks a really nice little kit.
Tony - if it is the one I am thinking about (a 112 Sqdn bird) the box lid shows the normal RAF camo scheme. This actual aircraft was painted with the firewall scheme: link 3 Sqn RAAF Mustang Mk.IVa's P4 - The 'Firewall' scheme The title says 3 Sqn but it also illustrates 112 sqn.

Incidentally - I found a photo of GA*S with a cuffed Hamilton prop when researching it, just in case that is the 'bird' you will build.

Wow, thanks for that Barry. I love that colour scheme. I read elsewhere that the prop was wrong, but I'm planning to do it in flight, with just the spinner. I just think the P51 looks so graceful with the wheels up - (there's a lot of detail in the wheel bays for 1/72 though).

Tony

I've just noticed there's no yellow leading edge, and the spinner looks white in the RAF photo.

this my forth modern vehicle loving them a the moment and yes i will go through the motions on here buddy thanks buddy...there is a down side to this build there are two markings in the box and i found out that the real tanks with the markings were lost in battle along with the crew...

Tony - the spinner would almost certainly have been Sky though some suggest that 112 would have retained the red from their days in the desert. I could not find any evidence of that.

Here is a pic of my 112 sdn Mustang, the Tammy 32 scale kit with aftermarket decals taken from a MkIII for the sharks teeth. I went with the Hamilton cuffed prop as per my photo but it could have been retrofitted and may have been delivered with a Aeroproducts prop.

Thanks again Barry. Lovely Mustang build there. Mine has now jumped to the top of my next build list.

errrrrmmmm what???
It's a term for doing certain servicings on aircraft in the RAF. AF = after flight and BF = before flight. So it's called an afbaffed.

Don't even ask about 'Turn arounds' lol

Just got myself the Revell 1/16th scale VW Beetle 1951/2 model.

On inspection it is a mix of parts for both but is missing other parts which means you can`t really make either correctly.

I find that a bit odd.

It also has a few parts to make a version with the canvas sunroof but they are labeled `as not used`

I`ll have to cut the hole in the roof to make this version, which is the one I want to do as I plan on building it as a British Army Staff Car in Berlin during the 50`s.

Another book on the way for me. Also bought a Dremel type multi-tool and some small clamps.
