Hi Scott, I think I had the original Dinky 'Transporter' Eagle when I was a kid. I say, 'I think' because it may have been an Airfix model, I can't quite remember. I know I won a metal UFO interceptor in a competition I entered with the comic 2000AD. Trouble is the prize didn't turn up for 3 years and by then I'd moved on to music and girls!!! It was funny though, I remember it came with a letter written by 'Tharg' the fictional alien editor of the mag! I wish I'd kept it might have been worth a bob or 2!If I really enjoy this build (and I think I will!) I may build a bit of a set to go with it, maybe a Moon Base Alpha hanger or Transporter lift.

Cheers Paul

Very nice kits Vaughan.

The decals do look a bit discoloured but you should have no problem sourcing replacement elsewhere. Kind of negates the discount though.

Wish there was a decent Ju 87B in 1/32

Hope you have fun building them, I'll certainly keep an eye out for them.

Cheers

Hi Paul can't at the moment find any where that sells them just scanning through Hannants site but haven't found any yet. I phoned Modelzone but they said that all the decals were the same Is it worth sticking them to a window and let the sun work on them?

Vaughan

Hi Vaughan

Mmmmm, I was pretty certain you could buy replacement decals. Just done a quick search myself at Hannants and although I can find 1 D version the actual markings are pretty dull.

I've never had the need to 'bleach' my decals in the sun but I've found this particular tip.

YELLOWED/AGED DECALS: After a while unused decal sheets can become yellowed with age. To restore them back to their original colour and get rid of the yellowing is actually quite simple. Put them in a plastic bag and tape the bag against a window facing direct sunlight. In a few days the decal sheet should be restored. From first hand experience, the following worked - Airfix (1976) F-86D decal sheet placed in a freezer bag - trimmed to be about the size of the decal sheet. Excess plastic bag folded and taped on the back of the sheet. The decal sheet and bag were taped inside my backroom window facing west - directly into the hot Australian setting sun. Three days later - white decals!

Hope this is of use, if this doesn't work I'm pretty sure suitable national markings and codes can be cobbled together from other kits.

Cheers

There is another choice...

Place the decals as normal (after all they may look ok) if they look too yellow then give a coat of Klear mask with post-its and blow in some white with the airbrush. Because they're simple straight lines it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

You may find that they look ok and this is unnecessary.

Cheers

Paul

Funny you should say Paul I have just been looking at someones build and they show the decal sheet it too looks quite yellow and yet the photos of the finished Stuka they look absolutely fine. So maybe they will look ok once applied. Thanks for the info.

Vaughan

Now I look at them again, I think they're fine. Sometimes the blue carrier backing can play tricks with your eyes (that's the royal you not you personally!) and give the white a 'warmer' look. Again you've always the airbrush option if you decide otherwise.

Anyway, hope it all goes well - keep us up to date with the build.
