Hi folks some of you might be aware that Ron and i attempted to start a wirral modelling club, without much success i add. Well i have used this idea and addapted it and offered it up to my company, the unuion learning scheme that deals with all the couses at work. Now i had a meeting yesterday with them and they have decided to allow myself and Ron to run a lesson based modelling course through merseyrail, this will initially be for the staff and their kids and if successful i have permission to make it a full time club which again if successful will start to open it to the local community. Myself and ron will be teaching the basic skills required for building model kits and a whole host of other stuff, it is my intention to use this forum as a means to try to encourage new recruits to take up the hobby and wondered if john had any business cards with the web address and scale model forum logo on it that he could provide. Ron and i still have a bit of work to do with lesson plans etc so wish us luck.

If he doesn't have any ........ You could, with Johns permission, just get some business cards printed up by one of those kiosk type jobbies ... it's cheap (ish). Vistaprint also do 250 cards for about 3 quid.

Failing that why not print some off yourself if possible.

If you have trouble designing them i'm sure there's plenty of people on here that could do it for you (myself included) then you could just print them off or even get them printed at a photographic shop (you get 4 busi cards on a 6x4 nicely) i used to do this myself when i had the business.

Also if you need help with tutorial planning, again i could help with this if needed (another sagging string to my bow from a past vocation as teacher/tutor/lecturer).

Nice idea, I'm all for anything that get's kids away from the TV and computers, I don't have any forum business cards only one's for the shop, but if you let me know what you would like on them I can knock up something more like a complement slip

Great idea scott and ron! I'm sure it will be a success , judging by the response ive seen at the Airfix tent at the waddington airshow---loads of eager kids sticking and painting kits like fury! I think a lot of it is that kids nowadays havent grown up doing models or even really seen them ( until the top gear bloke jumped on the bandwagon !) so its a really new concept to them ,which seems to get them excited , hopefully staying with them as they grow older. I reckon you and ron will be surrounded by avid pupils and i wish you both the very best , cheers tony

Thank you all i have to say iam excited about this i have been pushing for this for a long time now and i can see the light at the end of the tunnel, lets hope it's not a train waiting to run me over. Professor Ron is hopefully looking forward to instructing his students in the proper use for a pizza box.

Now you got me thinking about moving up to your end of the world to take advantage of your course! I wish you both every success.

and if you need any help...pm me
Not to worry andy I haven't forgotten about you mate we might need to call on you as a possible third professor, but we need to get lesson plans in place and then find out how to work it around the staffs shifts. That's providing we get any students. It will be run through merseyrail initially for staff and their kids, it will be held at the class room at port sunlight station but they want us to do an awareness class. Basically explaining what can be gained from it, a little talk on scale modelling etc.

To be honest Laurie i haven't had much experience in this as i have said i did a little advertising for members, scouted out a hall to upland did a little free advertising in the local free paper. however i found this to be unsuccessful, so not giving up i restructured my idea and made up a few temporary lesson plans and offered it to my company as union learning course and they seemed to really like the idea. i restructured the plan so it could be used as a team building concept, now all we have to do is hope people want to try it. initially i will funding it myself i have an estimate of about 250pounds for kits and tools and if we are successful then i can go back to the company and ask for time funding.
