I'm completely new to model building but after starting my first build Im hooked... I'm looking for help with what to buy and what not to buy... What products are good and what to stay away from.
Kits, tools, paints, cements and glues everything.

thats tricky depends on genre, scale, budget personally i find tamiya products to be excellent not only in quality but value, however everyone has their own preference i'm sure someone will be along shortly with their thoughts best to do some research and listen to a broad spectrum of different opinions

Cars, bikes and lorries... That's the kind of thing I'd be interested in building.

Potentially once I've learnt more id move into aircraft and military.

There's literary a whole work of 'stuff' out there - but the basics are the same for any genre. If you're into cars, it might also be worth learning how to spray paint with spray cans (most model companies like Humbrol and Tamiya do a range of these designed for modelling) and masking using something like Tamiya masking tape.

I'd also have a read through other peoples build thread and ask questions, no one will mind, and look through on-line modelling shops to see what sort of stuff is out there.

The likes of Tamiya and Italeri do some good 1/24 scale car kits. Although I've never built one so maybe not the best man to ask lol!

as above tamiya i a good base to start with kits especially revell need a lot more experience i have litrally built approx 200 1/24 cars and 9 1/12 scale cars and a couple of trucks, i only rattle can mine and occasionally get an issue due to humidity but generally comes out ok.

personally i use mr surfacer 1500 as a primer comes in different colours depending on what colour top coat being applied again i find mr super clear uv cut an excellent clear coat Tamiya TS spays are really good some colours are more of a challenge to paint be aware DON'T use PC sprays on polystyrene as it will disolve the plastic only use tamiya ts code sprays mr surfacer is suitable for all plastics hope this helps

Lidl/ Aldi frequently do "starter", airfix kits, including cars, (Astin Martin, Landrovers, Willys Jeeps, etc) they are slightly smaller, eg: 1:43 scale, or 1:72 scale, but great for learning and if you muck it up, they only cost about £7 each, so......

To cut your teeth on look at the tamiya Honda cb750f...... Kit just goes together no bother.... Done it at least five times over years and still got another in the stash

The Yamaha virago and Suzuki Katana are equally great kit

Not complicated, builds nice and cheap!

Cars again tamiya.... Skylines, scoobies, Mazda rx7 or mx5, lotus 7......all bargains

Learn to rattle can...... Don't forget if you're doing automotive you can get the proper paint for it.... Halfords is pricey, a little auto spares shop is cheaper...... Don't forget primer

I got this one from Lidl well the better half did, think she got fed up of hearing me talk about it and watching people doing builds on YouTube, so she came back with it for me lol

LOL! I'm SHOCKED you would say that!

I've built loads of classic Airfix kits over the years, I really must try that one one day just to see how bad it is....
