Hi Marc,

I've only just got back into the hobby after a 20 year break so am interested in the recommendations you'll no doubt receive. However, I went to Southwell last Sunday and was impressed with the 'Scale Modelling Now' magazine trade stand. In fact, I've just subscribed for the next year and it only cost me £12, so really great value. If you are interested, check out the on-line magazine:-

Scale Modelling Now.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks Paul..nice to hear someone local, just outside Melton Mowbray here! Will take a look!

I subscribe to Fine scale Modeler. I know its mainly USA baised for the prices etc, but the build reviews and how to sections are good for people like me :)

I would suggest an alternative to a magazine subscription, its cheaper and there are reviews, video builds and training videos as well with a weekly news video.

Flory Models - cost under £3 a month with no 'tie in'. - Home

As for magazines - I gave up on Fine Scale Modeller as they messed up my subscription and never got it right. In addition they are not very good for 32 scale, my preferred scale. I like Tamiya Model Mag best of all.

Florys is ok if your mainly building aircraft, but the even cheaper alternative is to just check out the thousands of teaching videos on YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. plus, hundreds of thousands of other free forums that offer so much more variety and they don't cost you a penny...

I have to disagree there. It is worth every penny, a great site and loads of useful stuff. I prefer this forum though to theirs!!!

I use loads of different forums for help, hints and tips to be fair, but I like the FSM mag and never had an issue with delivery, if anything it arrives at least a month in advance :)

This forum has the best people on it for open honest advice without been too harsh like other I could name, long may it continue :)

Hi marc , I dont subscribe to any magazines but i do buy plenty. I just tend to look at what takes my fancy every month, if its a feature on something im interested in then ill get it ,if not then no. Mags i sometimes buy are -scale aircraft modeller international (SAMI) , model aircraft , and model airplane international. All good mags but i wouldnt want to subscribe as i would be paying for issues that i sometimes wouldnt find that useful , cheers tony

Just joined and had a quick look around. It's going to be a useful site.

thanks for all your advice guys..i might have started a meaty discussion unintentionally :)

I to am on the Scale Modelling now Webazine. Well worth the money for the Photo reference library alone.

AS for printed mags, my local plastic pusher has a few subscriptions to the shop for customers to read :-) When there is a large pile, I often offer to "dispose" of them for him.
