Thought i'd start this thread after we started talking about this subject on a different thread. Not wanting to detract from that thread and also maybe this would be easier for other people to find through the site and search engines.

So if anyone has any techniques for making diorama trees/bushes then please fee free to post below. If you could show the techniques with pictures then that would be great too :)

I've included two of the suggestions off the other thread (hope you don't mind lads?)

Al, get into the garden or woodland, find some ivy & pull it up ( wear gloves! )Trim the root system, wash the excess dirt off & pop it in the microwave for a minute to kill any bugs.

Then brush with a PVA & water mix & sprinkle with dried herb leaves. I use mixed herbs or oregano. This makes excellent foliage & would work for trees too.

I'll be making one this week so I'll post pics if you like.

Cheers

Another good source for trees for diorama's is the hedges around the garden. Box hedges are best.... Great fir trees can be made from the dead flowers from a butterfly bush. (budlia?) bash the dead brown flowers off, roll them around in some thinned PVA then in a tray of that faux grass stuff.Ian M

i use twisted wire for mine, theres plenty of tutorials on youtube, the advantage with these is that theyre made to your own specific dimentions and are posable to an extent after completion.

I was looking into making trees a while back and found this

Maybe the kinda thing Colin is talking about ^^Its a quick way by the looks of things, Also im not sure if wire wool might work well as bushes just a idea though!

Cheers,Ben

Ok here's something i've been messing with today. Found this litchen growing on some trees around here and thought it could be useful. I dried it out (in the boiler room at work) and then painted it brown so simulate the branches. Then i've painted a pva/water mixture onto the branch ends and covered them with Timberline products from John's shop

As you can see here are the three steps i did. Looks ok for a first attempt :)
