Heres the second Mania ki51 Sonia , done in the seldom seen dark blue scheme. This is the reconnaissance version so no tiny bombs this time and a camera in the rear cockpit ( which I forgot to put in )
A lesson from the first build was the decals can be a bit see through so this time I decided to paint the hinomaru and just use the decals for the tail markings. The hardest part was getting a bit of interest in the solid blue , I eventually ended up using a light dirt wash to highlight the panel lines a little.

A beauty Tony, glad you got the blue shade sorted. I think the light grey wash and light dirt has added enough variation to break up the upper paint colour.

Cheers paul , joe . I enjoyed this but the dark blue gave me cause to think regarding the painted hinomarus . I had to prime in white first then mask them off so I wasnt trying to spray the white outline over the dark blue , the yellow leading edges were done first too . Then once it was blue the red centres were done - tricky trying to make sure they were central !
