why do i do it? lol

so looking through the stash for something to do i decided i fancied doing another old aircraft kit. i really enjoyed doing the Ilyushin even though i always struggle with aircraft, and picked out this

thik i picked this up in an Ebay bundle a long time ago.....appealed to me cos when i was a nipper back in late 60s/early 70s in the village where i lived the only options were airfix from the post office or revell from the newsagents......stuff like Frog kits seemed almost 'exotic' lol.....and when i saw this on ebay i knew that since it was a Novo kit it must be an ex-Frog one

ive just looked it up.....Novo issued this 1978 onwards which is bad enough but it was a new tool by Frog in 1963!!!!!, i wasnt even 2 years old!!.....so im doing a 52 year old kit with @35 year old decals in the box! why do i do it? lol

actually the decals look awful.....not through age but quality.....Russian decals dont you know......so im binning them and going with some generic ones from the spares box

Have you seen the film 'ted' haha flash brilliant.

Good luck though o_O

I made the Frog one many years ago.And I've got the Novo Maryland in a bag with no instructions or decals. Its moulded in a horrible dark brown plastic as well.Look forward to seeing this one built.A bit of a nostalgia trip for me.

this is in a strange styrene.....very brittle.....as bad as Esci stuff, and the flash isnt helping lol lol

I see Novo have copied the Frog instructions!.Looking good.I'd love one of these in 1/48.I think Classic Airframes did one.Rare as Hens teeth now.

as an aside, ive been trying some new paint out by Hataka, picked up the sets for RAF early/late european theatre and North Africa a while back....thought it the easiest way to get the right shades............this seemed the ideal thing to have a go.......couldnt get on with them, very thick and gloopy, hard to thin just right......ive tried water and isopropanol.......wouldnt go through the ab even with a 1mm nozzle!...............went back to Vallejo.....sprayed first time, no drama........so moral of the story is stick to what you know and dont waste 20 quid lol lol

Looks a very neat result Paul

All this fro an older kit of a subject you don't see too often.

Great stuff, the older kits are where you earn your modelling stripes!o_O

i get a kick out of doing older kits for a few reasons..........its a remembering the stuff i used to do as a kid back then......its the challenge of doing something a little bit harder rather than a shake n bake type kit where you know everything is going to go where it should.......and of course they are cheap :D
