Sorry this is not the norm but a mate of mine asked me if i could fix an old matchbox car that he was given by his Grandad many years ago, not being one to turn down a challange i said i would give it a go, but when i saw it my heart sank (what have i let myself in for), but having excepted the task i set about it with gusto, this is the outcome all thats left is to make the windows.

My big brother used to have one of these (the real car that is).He sometimes gave me a lift to Aircadets in it.That was in the early 70's.It was the same model and colour as the one in the Harry Potter film.You've made a good job on restoring this one .Are you sure its by Matchbox and not the earlier Lesney toy company?.

One heck of a project to take on but it's taking shape nicely John. It also revived a memory of some years ago........

Most of my mates had one of these in the late '60s. I had to put up with the earlier Anglia 100E, with a side valve engine!

My abiding memory of one Anglia 105E, which my good mate owned, was when we were 'Racing' from Chester to Abersoch, as we did most w/ends to go camping. This was long before it filled up with £10 Millionaires!, like it is today!

Anyway, we had just passed the Trawsfynydd Power station and approached a series of sweeping down hill bends....I was in front and reached the bottom with no sign of Pete, my girl friend (Later my wife) got worried so I turned around and went back.

I found his car on it's side on a grassy bit on the top bend. He was stood by it, with his girl friend (Later his wife!!) still inside. I climbed up and looked inside. She was still sat in her seat, she looked up at me in a resigned manner and said "I do wish he wouldn't go so fast all the time!"

All hands to the pump and we managed to right the car, dust it off and away racing again.....Happy, care free days.

When my wife and I pass the bend nowadays on our way home from Abersoch, we always salute the bend and the memories it holds of simple times when cars barely did 60mph!

I wasnt trying to be a smart arse.Its just that ive got one of these in the loft with a box of other Lesney and matchbox cars.Seeing your Anglia reminded me of the Lesney cars with solid metal wheels.They look like metal wheels in the small pictures on my iphone!.

i was'nt emplying u were a smart arse it was totaly my mistake, i asumed it was a matchbox, i should have read the base of the car.

There seems to be a lot of "replacement" bits knocking around for older models like this nowadays with people wanting to renovate them.

I found a few companies that did the "plastics" for windows etc when i did a few Jaguar and Batmobile revamps only a few years ago... you'd be suprised at what evilbay has to offer to be honest.

Worth a look .....

Top marks of the renovation, thank you for showing the pillar rebuild tip too, I would never of thought of doing that, top marks to you Sir...10/10:no1:

As I mentioned in the Land Rover post, I can't afford plastic kits these days, so I tend to renovate old Die Cast's, so the pillar rebuild tip will be very helpful, thank you...
