Cool subject Neil. I reckon those decals might be trickier than the painting

Made a start. Got a few bits off the sprues and the cage built. Got it in the car while it's drying, and put some bits in to get a feel of how it'll look. Managed to find a couple of good reference photos, so I may add a little to the interior.

Jason - the decals don't look too bad, tbh, it's the order of masking/painting the shell that's giving me the headache at the moment !!

Cheers, Neil

Hi all. Been getting a few bits and pieces done on this. It's mainly been cleaning up and trying to thin some rather typically clunky Airfix bits ! I opened out a few bits, the wheel centres and front spoiler vents. I found a couple of interior pics, so thought I might add a bit of wiring while I was there. Not sure how much will be seen once the body goes on, but it's all good practice !! Also added a few bits to the cage that were missing..

Cheers, Neil

Hi all. Interior is now mostly done, apart from the seats. I'm in a bit of a quandary over these. There are a set of quite nicely moulded ones included with the kit, but they are both the same and all connected up, with just doesn't look realistic at all. I'm thinking of using the buckle and making a new set of belts out of Tamiya tape, but it'll mean opening up some slots in the seats and making 8 rather small ends for the straps.....I still thinking about that !

Cheers, Neil

Excellent progress Neil , the roll cage looks brilliant, its a shame to cover it up! , cheers tony

Great progress Neil, love the extra detailing. Re work the seat belts mate, you'll regret it if the standard ones don't match the quality of the build so far.

Thanks for the comments guys :) Just a couple of pics of the roughed up interior, which is just about there. The only things left are a ratchet strap for the spare wheel, and those pesky belts ! At the last moment I noticed that the spare wheel still had the nuts attached, so I whipped them off and drilled out the holes.

Not sure if you can tell, but I gave the floor a dark wash, which I think has toned it down nicely.

So, while pondering the problem of the belts, I've made a start on the bodywork. The white roof was fairly straightforward, followed by the chrome waist trim. Then finally on with some colour, using genuine Mini Chilli Red !! Made a bit of a cock-up around the front windscreen so had to have a couple of go's at that, but otherwise it seems to have come out ok. Just the black trim left to do.
