So, what did you think when you read the title ? He's a fool, he's mistaken........etc.

Well, many might already know about this Spitfire, but it's just come as a bit of a surprise to me.

It turns out it's an 80% scale replica, made by Supermarine (Australia) hence I suppose it can carry the name Spitfire ! I don't know about current prices or even if it's still in production. Google it and loads more facts will appear, but do remember, it's not a copy, it's the latest version, so it does look a bit different.

Maybe it's a bit like Ford releasing the new GT40, all those with originals might look down on it, but for those who will never be able to afford an original, it may just offer the chance of owning something near to the original.

Anyone want to by a hardly used Airbrush, some unused kits, wife (free with two kids) and a couple of old cars ?? I need to erm, fund a new project................!

Regards

Colin M......

I'm not sure if it's an illusion but it looks a bit like it's not full size in some shots. A strange looking aircraft but a Spitfire for 96K doesn't sound too bad if you are into that sort of thing. I'm sure the cost of running it would put it out of the range of most people though.

I don't have any problem with these replicas (at what ever scale) but replicas they are. The Flugwerk Fw190s,which are full size, are impressive to see but replicas they remain. Their "Dora" is powered by an Allison engine!

At least the Aussie Spit is relatively reasonably priced.

Cheers

Steve
