discussion Mock up glue

Hello all,
I would like your words of wisdom on something.
I need to know if theres a glue I can use for mocking-up i.e. test building subassemblies or panels etc before painting to make sure of a correct fit , or , when scratch building, trying out the fit of an engine/transmission/suspension in a pretty solid way, but then being able to un-glue everything for painting?
I often see on-line, especially from USA model builders, custom cars built completely 'in white' to make sure everything fits. You can't tell me they paint them built-up like that so they must use some glue which can hold it all in the correct position but can be dissolved after.
The ones I have asked about it have said they use 'white glue' which I'm thinking means PVA?
What are your thoughts?

Yep, PVA glue seems to make sense.

Not sure how they go about it as I really struggle with PVA as it seems to take forever to set.

I sometimes use a tiny and I mean tiny bit of CA glue to hold pieces in place when I’m test fitting. The parts then come apart with a little bit of pressure.
I clean up with a wipe of de-bonder if necessary.

Probably studio gum (it replaced the latex cow gum) I think. I used to use it to stick the little blokes to painting sticks before I discovered blue tac. When dry it just rubs off the surface. Could also be copydex, which is very similar.

Could you use a few dots of masking fluid???

I if need to hold bits together, I just use bits of masking tape. If the parts are large enough that is.
