discussion Model building slump!

I seem to be in a slump, I've got three kits on the go and can't seem to raise the energy to finish any of them.

Is this something others have experienced, cos it's doing my head in each time I see them just sat there..

I'm going through one myself at the moment.Mainly because the weathers been good and Ive been gardening in the evenings.Ive got a Phantom and Spitfire mk12 at the painting stage.Will try and progress them at the weekend.

I've certainly been there Tony. In fact I have a certain unpainted Phantom that looks at me every time I go into my spare room. If I am going to lose my modelling energy it will occur at a painting stage I find. I recently finished my Huey and now I'm taking some time out from model construction. For me shift work makes me tired and lethargic when it comes to doing the small things. I will sit back and watch other peoples' work here on the forum. It sparks the imagination again and the drive to get something finished. One of the worst things I can do, and I am guilty of it more than once, is to have more than one on the go at a time. Having said that the odd little easy build project in between can be helpful in reinvigorating the modelling mojo. The GB scheme has also been helpful in pushing to get projects done.

I've got a helicopter and a Phantom waiting for me to do the canopy masking. It's been a longish wait.

Retail therapy might help, so I've bought some Gator's Grip glue and a smart new cutting mat, which I'm sure will give me the impetus to crack on with it.

im with you got the devastor to finish..and just started building a king tiger and thats just sat there for 3 days and not been touched..must watch some war docs that always gets me in the mood hope that helps

Well I had several kits on the go some of those just lay around for over a year and. I recently decided I would finish them all and I am slowly getting through them some are now missing small parts but they may turn up eventually . Sometimes when it all becomes to much I have a tidy around sorting stuff out rearrange you work area buy some new tools do a dio for your un completed stuff but sometimes maybe you just need a break just look through the forum at other people's work anyway I hope your passion soon returns as I am sure it will keep your pecker up cheers john

I find certain builds make me lose interest, too many problems or bad fit put me off and sometimes I struggle to finish them. Also with work, family, garden allotment and everything else I struggle to find time!!!!

The slump must be catching, Ive got it as well...In all fairness Ive had a few things going on lately and my wedding season has started. Got a phantom and M706 to finish...theres always tomorrow...

I think we have all been there at some point in time. I tend to say sod it and leave it alone for a while; I can got to the display shelf and pick out the kits I have 'made myself finish off' just by looking at them. So now if I hit a slump in a build I do one of two things: leave it alone of find something really different to build.

The thing that really kills me off is "research". I charge around on the internet looking for info, photos, history etc. I then find so much conflicting information I get the hump!!! LOL. So a lot of things don't even get started until a positive is found.

So: Mo-Jo may come and go but modellers are forever!!

Danny's right ... this slump must be going around. I've not touched a model in a couple of days... for me though its not lack of interest, its other things interfering ... in my case I've burnt my netbook out and the cars off the road due to rear brakes going fubar, thus having to prioritise my time to get things back in order.

there must be something in the air as i am feeling cheesed of with my build , i think it is the tracks , its monotonous but I'm trying to keep going and not make a b++ls up in the process .

Steve, there is something in the air........The sun!lol......It's been a long time coming.

Putting the joy of Mr. Sun warming the top of my sweed to one side, I found that if I went straight on to another build, I ended up on a production line sort of thing, to the exclusion of anything else, and started to go stale through just constantly sticking plastic together.....then the wall appeared and my mojo disappeared, to return when it was ready!

For now, my modelling is way down on my priority list. It's summer - sez he hopefully.......It'll soon be gone, so I intend to suck as much out of these longer daylight hours as I can.....away from my bench.

That's not to say I'm keeping the glue cap tight on, but it'll take a fair bit of motivation to unscrew it just yet.

I'll no doubt get an idea for summat soon, but in the mean time it's oot in the fresh air!

So for now, I will get my modelling fix watching my friends on here doing their stuff, and helping where I can.

Summer Mr Ron, SUMMER, where, it must be stuck on the other side of the mountains as it's not crept over this way yet, it's still freezing, I have just put my heating on for a little bit to warm the house up a little, the only way I knew it was Spring was the rain and not snow started to come down...

So PLEASE Mr Ron, any chance you could share some of the warm sun, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaase...lease:

As for the slump bit, I find it hard these days to do any, I've been trying to convert a couple of small trucks for the last few months, so don't worry Tony you are not the only one Sir...

i started planning and saving for a new kitchen last february and every payday bought something else, a unit here, a sink there etc, nearly bought every thing i need (couple of worktops left) .for the last five months i have stripped down to brickwork,drywalled, tiled, done electrics, taken floor out and renewed (woodworm), been doing this for every spare hour i have had all on my own and subsequently have not touched a model since christmas.......missing it so much but cannot sit down while my house is like a building site, so my modelling slump is forced on me. guess thats why i have not been posting much......hopefully in another three weeks it will be all finished and i can get some serious work done.

I have some water pipes that need moving. To get to them I need to go it through the kitchen ceiling..... I look at it often and then get back to the model building. :laughing:

i sealed myself into the room with plastic sheeting whilst taking down the ceiling and knocking the plaster of the walls, so why the hell is there still half an inch of dust around the whole house, cleaned it all out three times now and i am sure someone is creeping in at night and putting it back.
