Hi all

So this is another one that is part way through the build process that finally got primed at the weekend.

On the whole a nice build and the metal hull is stunning. Lots of crisp detail on most of the sprues and it generally went together nicely. A lovely set of instructions too (aren't I sad!!!).

Unfortunately though it was a bit disappointing in places. Some huge 5+mm sprue attachment points on really thin parts e.g. MG barrel, a couple of slightly of iffy moulded sprues, plus a large number of moulding pins/lugs to be removed. All the review kits I have seen had four sprues in a light grey plastic plus the metal hull. I had 7 or 8 sprues of light grey plastic (very nice), dark grey (ok) and green (generally disappointing). I guess that they had taken various sprues from different kits to make up the set which is a shame and it did cause the odd fit issue.

I've yet to start the tracks yet though. They will be my first attempt at a set of link and length ones.... :surprised:.

However, rather than the usual £11ish plus P&P, this did only cost £8 from a small local model show just before Christmas, so I can't really complain too much. I think I'll be buying some more of these at some point though as they are very nice!

ACW welcome as usual.

Andrew

PS Sorry for so many pics. Don't know what I was thinking......

That looks like a well-detailed model. I’m just wondering why the lower hull is a metal part :)

Andrew £8 is an absolute bargain for ModelCollect
I have a couple of Syrian T72’s and a T64 and pretty sure they were at least double that price

Personally I am not a fan of metal hulls - can’t see the point and it makes it virtually impossible to mess with suspension arm positions or correct defects

Link and length tracks should be pretty easy

Lovely detail on the T90 - should be good fun to paint

I’m still waiting for them to do a T62 - it has been listed for a few years but never seen it for sale anywhere

Never seen one of these kits Andrew. Certainly different having metal and plastic main parts. Overall its a very impressive model. Thanks for sharing

In that scale the level of detail is fantastic. Wish that could be the case in 1/87 scale.
One to be proud of Andy. Rick H.

The early Tamiya 1:48 scale armour kits had this as well, I recall from reviews (I’ve only ever bought their Kettenkrad in that scale, and that’s all plastic), and some of the Dragon 1:72 scale AFV kits have a metal hull and/or superstructure too — mainly the ones originally intended to be sold as completely built and painted models. Both their Tiger II with „Porsche” turret and their Sturmtiger that I built had metal hulls, for example, with plastic wheels and details, and, IIRC, also the turret for the Tiger II.

Andrew,
That is a great build.

Paul

Thanks very much. It's the first non-WW2 model since I came back to the hobby but I just couldn't resist it

Jakko, Honest answer don't know but as I can see you know far more than I do on the topic!

Very nice, tidy build Andrew:thumb2:

Thanks Si. I seem to recall that me picking this up was your fault!!!! :tongue-out3:

Simon, thanks for stopping by. I was impressed when I saw it for £8, most of the others at this scale I saw on the day were around £12. As for the metal hull it's the first I've seen and it was the level of detail on it that took my breath away but i take your point about tweaking the suspension. And as you say the detail is amazing.

Thanks for stopping by Steve. As you say very different with mix and a lovely kit.

Rick, you're not wrong, the detail is great. My only real gripe was with MG. The attachment point was so wide it was impossible not to make the barrel look flat. :(

Thanks again all for stopping by.

Andrew, a real bargin, that produced a great detailed model.
Simon writing on the tracks make me smile. " Link and length tracks should be pretty easy "
Its easy for some and a nightmare for others. :smiling::smiling::smiling: I'm in the others group !
Good luck, bet you will find them easy

Thanks John , as you say an absolute bargain and I couldn't have complained at full price. Si Benson has a neat truck with them involving masking tape that I've asked him for instructions on. Hopefully it will be ok.

I did try that as you might have read Andrew on the T18.
I used a slow setting glue, sticking the tracks down as Si said, what a difference. Ok one or two did fall off ! But that was no doubt my lack of sanding that caused
I know Si uses a normal glue

On the ones i saw on YT they used tamiya extra thin? Left for between 30 sec to a minute??

Hi all

So this has now got the point where the paint and decals are on. It's the first time I've done modern Russian camo and I think it came out ok-ish.

It's also nice to do a kit it with only three decals!!
