Hi friends.
Wondering how many of you suffer with a continuing problem i have. After watching say "Nightshift" on Youtube etc or builds on forums it seems to inspire me to build.Studying books for reference fires this enthusiasm. Then when i go to build i get halfway and wham bang Lose focus and interest. The end result so many stalled builds and some waiting for lick of paint.Seems to happen constantly and at times i think maybe should cull 90 per cent of the stash.Even wife says you never finish models.

Me too, especially at the moment. I have great interest and enthusiasm, then it often goes pear shaped.

I have almost finished two ships but am planning the next. However I must get out this madness because the other half built stuff just gets left behind. So can fully appreciate your comments!

Some of my builds go back in thebox very soon after there started because im just not feeling it, but a lot seem to stall when there almost finished for some reason,my m26 recovery vehicle just needs the wheels put on which ive even already weathered, ive got an rnli lifeboat that needs an anchor and one decal and my hms cornwall which is done rigging an all but i haven't put in the finished section yet because it is awaiting the mammoth task of sticking on .....a flag lol

I go through phases where sometimes i love building and hate painting and love painting ,hate building, i think the answer is a quick starter kit build, that way you can feel youve achieved a lot in just a weekend.

It doesn't matter Bob, as long as you're having fun there's no need to feel you have to finish anything.

I've spent months and months away from the bench due to a lost mojo and pressures of work. This week was the first time i sat down and stayed.
It'll come back at some point. Even if it is a little at a time. Just enjoy the moment when it does.

A valid point . As long as you enjoy doing what your doing when your doing it.

Yes, I consider myself a average builder so most of the StuG I made were not that good. So not worth keeping. Only gathering dust lol

Is this AMS? (advanced modelers syndrome) in seeking perfection our enthusiasm is dented at the first time we hit a bump in the build where something doesn't go as well as we hoped? The problem seems overwhelming or time so consuming it's easier to add it to the 'shelf of doom!'
Some guys are intimidated by their peers who all seem to have better results than we do so they never show their stuff believing it's not good enough
It's tricky to get past this sometimes, continuing the research keeps the enthusiasm alive, posting progress in forum gives impetus to complete when it's being observed and remarked upon by our modeling contemporaries
The absolute 'worst' thing you can do is start another kit! really, don't do this! Make it a unbreakable rule! this in itself can drive you on to complete your build
Time constraints can hinder progress too, but if you have just ten minutes use that time to complete one small task, I've sat for a ten minute session and finally walked away a couple of hours later!
Procrastination is the enemy of progress!

We are modelers, there is nothing in a build that practice persistence and innovative thinking cannot overcome!

Hi Miko.
No.AMS for me.Definately an average modeller with basic skills.Think we all strive to finish what we started.A smaller stash might help but retail therapy wins hehe.Too many distractions and daily tasks limit bench time.Might set aside a day a week to have a modelling day.Well we can try.
All the best.
Richard

But if you persist you'll be a brilliant modeler with amazing skills.

Setting aside time for a hobby, modeling in this case is so important

I am suffering from Mojo go walkies AND Gekko. I was building a long wanted tank from Gekko.
Absolute train crash of a kit. I think it was way to over thought. Why use two parts when we can do it with 10, sort of thing.
The fit was terrible, Build a subsection with way to many parts, fitting as you go. to find that the finished subsection does not and will not fit where it should. I tried for almost a month, on and off. Ended up in the bin.
Attempt two? Another Gekko kit. This one the Landing craft Assault is a bit better.. going much better, this time the paint is annoying me. Older paint and over thinned. Duh!

Another conflict is Space Deficiency. I have; either way to little space, way to many finished kits or far to big a stash. Probably all three. I have looked in the display cabinets and tried to cull them back. I find it rather hard (impossible). I will have to though. It seams I have developed a taste for larger models, - which don't help with the space...

I'm in exactly the same predicament as that last paragraph Ian!.....
...... I keep looking at my cabinets and think,"right, this time SOMETHING'S gotta go",then, after an eternity of staring at the completed models therein..... I shut the doors, walk away, and think..... "maybe tomorrow then". :flushed:

I find my mojo drops during every build. It starts high, when everything is bare plastic and imagination, and gradually drops as the issues mount up. Once I get near the primer stage it starts rising again and builds as I approach the end of the process. At its worst I find just doing a few minutes a day pushes me past the slump because I’m still making progress. Starting something else is not a great idea for me because I never go back to the stalled build. I have a few of these on the shelf of shame, the oldest of which (a 120mm Native American figure in primer) must be at least twenty five years old. A complete loss of mojo is rare for me though.

Had a problem last year with a bad case of 'builders block'.... Kept looking in the boxes and putting them back, even got a couple to the bench, but back they went. Then I went looking for a particular kit and during the search came across others that I knew were going nowhere... So onto evilbay with them, and the ridiculous fees they were charging me set me off... Might as well bin them, and that is what I did, the ones that did not sell went straight in the bin, then I actually went through the whole stash and looked at every kit and made the decision - build or bin. By the time I finished the recycle bin was half full of sprues and flattened kit boxes. Yes I paid good money for them and it is money I will never get back even selling them as untouched. But the pressure was off on what was to be my next project, and after a couple of bad starts (lousy kit) I sorted out the problem and here we are today getting near the end of another build. And once the bases are finished for three other completed models then I am going over to building aircraft, how many I do not know, but the change of subject may help as well.
